Sound good - kept falling apart
Sound really good and among the few that fit the "lizard slits" I have for ears. Main complaint is the shells kept coming detached. After re-gluing a few times, wire one one of the drivers finally broke after 18mos and ended up getting the higher quality HF3s

Very Good Isolation and Sound, Be Careful of Getting Sweat/Water in Control
Very nice sound, the headphones themselves are metal, so they feel sturdy. They stay in place reasonably well, though if you're sweating and running you'll have to either really jam them in your ears or keep adjusting them. This is my second pair of Etymotic headphones -- these are the closest I've found to "earplugs with music" that aren't hideously low quality. They keep all sorts of noises out, and allow you to listen to music at a reasonable volume.Really the only issue I have with them is that if you sweat and allow water/sweat to get into the control (with the pause/skip, and volume buttons), unexpected things happen (at least with an iPhone). Music will start/stop erratically, for example. Things go back to normal once dry (in my experience). As long as you're careful with that, these are excellent isolation headphones, and work well as earplugs too.

If you are a Shure user, don't bother, these aren't even close.
These are built well as far as material quality goes, I would bet they last a long time as far as durability. These also seal and noise isolate very well.I don't like anything else about them. These make me really miss my Shure E2Cs. The sound quality is just lifeless, no bottom, no top-end. They sound a bit better when pushed hard, but I don't like listening at high sound pressures for extended periods. The sound quality from these drivers is completely uninspiring. I have $20 airport canal phones that sound a lot better than these. The microphonics are completely and outrageously out of control on these. You basically have no choice but to wrap the cords over your ears or they are unusable with all the noise. The design makes it very awkward to route the cables over your ears as well. The microphonics are so loud they overwhelm what you are listening to unless you take measures to reduce them. The Shure E2C just didn't have this issue at all and the design is made to wear the cables over the ear to damp them. All these years with Etymotic in the business, I figured I would try one of their products and I am very disappointed. I'll have to see what, if anything Shure has these days, I miss my E2Cs (I broke them after well over 10 years of use).

Etymotic phones are the greatest - really excellent fidelity and they keep ambient noise out like nothing else I've ever used.
Etymotic earphones are really great, especially the way they keep noise out when you want to hear good music in the quiet. I especially like them when I walk along a noisy high-traffic road or going on a long plane trip and don't want to hear the engines or noisy passengers. The only thing bad is getting the earpiece to fit into a tight ear. I finally found one of the inserts to work well in my left ear that got severely injured in a car wreck years ago. The usual insert is too large and becomes very uncomfortable. I got the small version by an extra order but they don't supply many with an order for the phones. I have the version with a mike and it works very well with my LG 4G cell phone

Excellent sound
Excellent earbuds. This is my third set of ERs and they are very clear and with the large flanges seal very well. Only 4 stars because of the lack of significant bass. Otherwise they sound great.

Totally the worst Etymotic product that I've purchased in ten purchases. Poor quality.
Over the years (past 7 years) I have purchased ten sets of Etymotic ear buds. These are the worst I've ever had the displeasure to experience!!!! What is going on inside the Etymotic company? These crap-job ear buds only present 1/2 of the stereo sound, like half of a sound track! Totally unsatisfactory. $100? Not good & I'm very disappointed in the decreasing quality control of Etymotic.

Simply awesome.
I use these buds for listening to music when on my riding mower. The noise suppression is excellent, as with any of the Etymotic products I've used. Audio quality is good--on par with the pricetag of these buds. I've had much better sounding buds, but paid twice the price and the noise suppression wasn't anywhere near what these offer. I've had my pair for over 3 years ,and just bought this pair for my kids to use while mowing. 3+ years of abuse while being used outdoors says something about the high quality and design.

Small compact and great sounds. Makes a huge difference in sound quality ...
Small compact and great sounds. Makes a huge difference in sound quality when I use the mic from this that my callers would always say the signal got better. Apparently they thought I did something such as moved to a better spot or called from a better connection. Actually, all I did was to use this headphone and mic on my conference calls. I like to travel with them on flight as it also help isolate the noise level during the trip.

Listen to me, or them
To be fair. I've been a Etymotic fan for a while. For the price they are great sounding and even without sorting out the custom fit plugs they cut out almost all background noise at the worlds largest airshow earlier this year. Might be tempted to upgrade to their top range model in the not to distant future.

Excellent noise isolation, poor build quality
These earphones provide the best noise isolation and sound quality in the price range. However, the device is made with very cheap quality materials and they break very easily. I have gone through several of them. The warranty process (after Amazon 30 days) is to post the device to the USA (you have to pay for shipping) and they send a replacement - takes about a month total.

Isolation Isolation Isolation
Ordered Feb 10, 2014. Jack housing/strain relief (the 45 degree bend off the 3.5mm 4 pole jack) was what gave way in December of 2015. Replaced under warranty by Etymotic, though I opted to go another model up during the process, to get the balanced armature version for a slightly more crisp sound. These are a moving coil driver, like a mini speaker cone, meaning the body of the earphone is about the diameter of a pencil. They fit very well into my ears, and the 3 flange tips isolated sound so well I could use them are earplugs for noisy places, even without music. When listening to music, it's your own world. You could close your eyes and not notice someone talking to you from the same room, though that depends on your choice of music/volume. Even at a low volume, these were very good at isolating sound. They come with other tips as well, suited to your choice or fit. The foam ones are almost exactly like earplugs around NRR20, except with a silicone hole through them for the earphone tip to transmit sound through. The only beef I have with these is the 45 degree jack. It captures the worst of the right angle and straight jack designs, with almost no benefit. I have opted to get a mini 3.5 mm audio jack extension cable (right angle, male to female, 6 inch, 4 pole) to protect from the same thing happening to my new earphones.I recommend these to anyone looking for exceptional sound isolation when listening to audio. The sound tone is warm and mellow, with great range through mids and highs, but less bass response than other comparable models from different companies. Coupled with the isolation, however, the bass response is exceptional for the price.

Etymotic MC3 produced a surprising amount of silence
Etymotic MC3, WOW !!!The amount of quiet that it brought was impressive. Some times I would put them on while I was walking down a busy street and it would stop most of the noise.
