I used these to make replacement soldering iron tips for a Parkside iron that uses odd sized tips that are quite hard to get. I threaded the end of the rod with an M4 thread and cut it off in the desired length. It works really well. It's soft and easy to work with and I've plenty left to make different size/shape tips.
