Cisco WS-C3550-12G 10x 1000BASE-X GBIC Catalyst Switch w/2 10/100/1000BASE-T Ports

A very nice little layer 3 switch for less than $100! It was a good value for me because I already had several old GBIC modules sitting around.Tech note: It doesn't look like Cisco is going to roll out IOS 15 for this old switch. The latest IOS version as of this writing (Oct2013) is 12.2-44.SE6. This switch also doesn't support 9k Jumbo frames, so it might not be the best choice for a SAN lab. The layer 3 switching is very fast though so give your poor router a break won't you?

This Item is fully loaded with 10 fiber links. 8 of them are configured (etherchannel) to go to 4 x 3550-48 end user switches, and 2 are paired etherchannel to a 3560 serverfarm, the two copper gig ports go to the 2851 router and out to the internet. This is the core of a production network with over 250 nodes including VoIP. And it has been able to push traffic fantastically. Finally, a Cisco product which doesn't cost a lot for how much it gives.
