Dell AS501 Sound Bar - PC multimedia speakers - 10 Watt (Total)

I am very pleased with this item. The sound is as good as my free standing Logitec speakers I currently own, but keep getting knocked over on my desk. This freed up desk space and is compatable with my new Ultrasharp Dell monitor. It also plugged into my existing Logitec mini-sub that came with my other speakers. Slick blue power light and silver grill looks outstanding. Easy hookup, would recommend it to anyone.

This is older (Silver)version for the Dell Ultrasharp series now replaced by a similar (black) unit, which based on other reviews, is inferior to this older unit. No need for a power adapter if using on an Ultrasharp. Reduces cord clutter (you do have run the audio plug to your workstation and a short plug into the back of your dell monitor) and switches on/off with monitor or when powering PC off. Good sound for what it is - great for my work computers but not much bass. Better than some cheap desktop speakers I've purchased. Get 'em while you can.

The soundbar appears to be fine, but there was no A/C Adapter included, and it takes a peculiar adapter! So, it is essentially useless. What you see in the picture is the only thing you'll receive.

My PC was recently wiped (Dell XPS) by a power surge on the phone line (lightning strike). The line was plugged into a surge suppressor, but to no avail. The surge trashed my mother board and sound bar. I was able to find a NOS (New Old Stock) mobo on eBay for a great price, and then found this soundbar, which is an exact replacement for the one I had.The new bar came sealed in an ancient Dell package, so it's an NOS item as well.I unpacked the unit but there was NO AC ADAPTER in the box. Fortunately, in my case, I still have a functional adapter from the original bar, so I plugged it in and all is fine. Works great, but if YOU ARE GOING TO SHOW AN ADAPTER as a part of the package THEN INCLUDE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MF

Given the limitations of its size, this is a great unit which doesn't take up any additional desktop space. I like the simple rotary on/off switch and volume control adjustment on the unit, which allows me to shut the unit off or adjust the volume without resetting the volume control sliders on the computer. Sound is well balanced, voices sound natural, and music is surprisingly good at moderate sound levels. Obviously, don't expect thumping base or a wide stereo sound field. A steal at this price.
