Perfect for Craftsman LT3000
I had some serious doubts at first when attempting to replace my old mower engine, which after 14 years had finally given up (connecting rod failure). Not a bad run for a relatively entry level Briggs and Stratton engine. The original equipment was a 20hp 31H777-0297-E1, which is hardly available these days. Easy enough to remove the whole old assembly from the mower in about an hours time.Enter this beauty. I had no idea that B&S sold such complete engine assemblies. Everything from the starter, carb, updated with fuel pump (awesome, A+), matching wiring harness, muffler and throttle cable brackets. Literally plug and play. All mounting holes to mower frame lined up, wire connectors - perfect. Only thing I needed from the old engine was the screw and clamp for the throttle cable. The new muffler is great, but for this Craftsman mower I replaced with a new muffler designed for the old engine which also matched up absolutely perfect and changed it from side discharge to bottom (like the mower came with).I highly recommend that during this process you replace your fuel tank. Cheap and easy, give this new engine clean fuel like it deserves. For an LT3000 mower like mine you will have to test fit the new fuel line/filter routing. No big deal but I recommend having several inches of 1/4” new fuel hose on hand to make the new tank to filter connection. In addition to this process, use your old mounting bolts to tap the new engine mount holes prior to installation on the mower to save extra annoyance. Buy and install the B&S quick oil drain kit with hose, this engine comes with just a simple square plug.Triple check your oil before starting, it does include a little oil already in the sump. Mine took a little extra coaxing to get fuel flowing and air out through the new lines/pump/filters as expected. After that, ran beautiful. I took mine for a drive down the street a good ways to explore all throttle ranges and loads to break in the engine. After about 5 hours of run time I changed the oil which was not terribly dirty but this is good practice for a break in. Pull the spark plug at this time and check for any contamination or discoloration.Overall, this was a wonderful purchase. Any anxiety I had about spending this amount of money (which at $650 is an excellent value) quickly disappeared once it arrived and I finished my inspection. Felt even better during the piece of cake install and the satisfying first run.

B&S 33R877-0029 540cc 19hp engine
4/2019 This is a review of the B&S 33R877-0029 540cc 19hp engine. Mine was going into an Ariens riding mower. As many people, I don't know alot about small engines. I am not afraid of a wrench, or dirt, so I thought this should be an easy swap.So I found it hard to figutout what the correct engine I needed was. Like many people I searched the internet to try to figure out what the correct engine would be. No help. Went to the local small engine shop, some help, but not much. Finally I read another review that said they contacted the seller, so I did. My seller on Amazon was Brand New Engines inc. I talked with Denver. He was the most help I could have asked for. So what he told me was that the the type number was assigned to bulk purchasers from B&S. He also confirmed that the engine I was looking at would "be a great replacement."So this was the same engine, what I did notice was that there were some accessories that we're different. This new engine has a fuel pump, where I could not find one on the old engine. I left the fuel pump on. The old engine had a different oil drain plug to extend past the frame, the new engine just has a bolt similar to a automotive engine. I will change that when I do my oil change later. The new engine comes with a muffler, where the original uses a down pipe into a baffel. They call this a muffler, but mine was not welded to the lower baffel, so it didn't do much meffeling. I need to remove it to get the hood back on, but left it on for my first mow. Alot of people talked about the mounts on the engine not being tapped. It is an aluminum block, and I think the bolts with the original engine were titanium, most importantly, self tapping. I can't speak for all mowers, but I would think this is common.I read a few reviews that said their engine came with everything. Mine did except oil. I note this because one review said theirs had oil in it. Now, the dip stick was covered in lubercant, for building and preventing rust. No oil.Everything went on fine except the muffler as noted above. I had to get a pulley puller to remove the old pulley. This was the hardest part for me. I bent it up, but I just beat it back out with a hammer. I looked into replaceing it, and cutting it off, but ran to the auto store to see if I could get it off, and that pulley remover worked fine. It was a 5" pulley remover. It would fall off alot until tightened. This was annoying for me because I was doing this in my garage floor. I put it on jack stands to get some clearance. So I have run mine for about two hours now. I ran it for about and hour on low rpm for a break in, than mowed for an hour. Everything seems fine.

Great replacement for John Deere LA100
I did not realize how easy it was to replace the motor that blew in my John Deere LA100. This motor was an exact fit. There are only 4 bolts that bolt it to the frame, 1 bolt for the drive pulley, 1 throttle cable to disconnect and 1 wire harness to unplug. The only suggestion, I had read in another review about the self tapping bolts. Forgot about it till I went to install this motor. The easiest way to do this, is just flip it over in the packing foam it comes with, and thread your 4 bolts in slowly, till the threads are good. Then do the install. From the time taking out the engine to install and running was 2 hours. That was with me taking my extra slow time. The engine came with its own fuel pump, starter, oil filter, spark plug all installed, air filter, literally everything you need except for gas and oil. The only items I reused was the 4 self tapping engine mounting bolts and the older muffler and the one screw for the throttle cable. The engine comes with it own muffler but this will not work under the hood of the JD LA100. Unless you want it to melt. But all you do is take the original muffler off your mower, take the new one off the new engine, and install your old one to it. I replaced the gasket for this at the time but it was not needed. Only two bolts for this as well. . The motor takes 48oz of oil, and there is no owners manual but I found it online. I put the oil in, filled the gas tank and it started on the first turn of the starter. I did keep my old motor just in case I needed some parts off of it, but nothing was needed except for the bolts listed above. If I can do this anyone can.
