Mike Portnoy In Constant Motion Set

Awesome explanation, terminology and illustration. A must have for this fact as well as new ways to apply these practices into my spectrum of applications on my drum set and communication between musicians. I think that you will find very helpful information and be able to put it to use immediately. And these dvd's focuses on Mike Portnoy and isolates him during some of his live performances with good camera shots and positioning and great audio that stands out primarily focusing on the drums and shows Mike's feet on his double bass to show exactly what he is doing. And a great personal first-person interview and tour through all the shows and history of the making for this production. It has 3 dvd's and I guess about 8 or 9 hours of non stop need to know info. Great dvd.

I have all of Dream Theater's and Mike Portnoy's Videos and although I prefer Liquid Drum Theater (probably because I like the selection of songs), this DVD is exceptional. Mike is wonderful at explaining his ideas and concepts. I play in a Rush/Dream Theater Tribute band, so finding gems that allow me to play like Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy are truly important to me. This DVD (or should I say three) is no different. Ironically, the second DVD is my favourite, which shows Mike in Tribute bands. However, this does not negate the fact that the remaining material is excellent. There are a few sections of disk number one that I use with my students in my music school. The odd meters and independent exercises are really great. Mike is also very humble in that he admits that some of the patterns are very tricky and breaks them down for the mere mortals out there.Well done to Mike on yet another great drum resource. Even if you are not a drummer but a Dream Theater fan, this is a great addition to your collection!Cheers

As a Mike Portnoy’s fan, I recommend 100% this product

This DVD is a must to own. Anyone who has followed his work with DT and his many other side projects will find this DVD very fulfilling. Not only does he devote an entire disk to his work with DT he also devotes another entire disk to his playing with Transatlantic, OSI (one of my personal favorites), Fates Warning and others. I was not disappointed watching the incredible constant motion displayed in each of the songs he chose to include. No doubt Mike is probably one of the best drummer's alive today. The third disk I have not gotten to yet, but I am looking forward to watching it. Mike is an extremely intelligent dude and I find it interesting listening to his stories and his commentary on the music. My only complaint is the price of the DVD. I feel that it should be priced around 30 dollars. However, I am still satisfied with my purchase and I know that I really got my money's worth.

If you own any of Mike's previous videos you'll know what to expect here, more of the same with bonus footage from guest apperances with his side project tribute bands. He breaks down a few Neal Morse songs and the new OSI material and it was nice to see his drum set arrangements for those projects.I'm becoming more a fan of watching him play than just listening to Dream Theater's music. This is a must for any current Mike Portnoy fan and I highly recommend this one to anyone who does not own any of his videos yet. Some of the most impressive playing I've ever seen captured on this set. This set costs less than a tank of gas in a full size SUV so just go for it.

I got this instructional DVD not because I am a drummer, but because I am a Dream Theater fan. Portnoy is the band leader, but also the source of their history as he has recorded pretty much everything he has ever done with Dream Theater and any of his side projects. This DVD will not disappoint the fan, as I learned things that I did not know. For a drummer, it is not as good as his previous instructional DVD, Liquid Drum Theater. His explanations are not very clear, stumbling over his words more than he should. The drum cam footage though is often very good, and those drummers who can pick up by sight will learn a lot.

This latest DVD release by Mike Portnoy is worth every penny. It has over 7 Hours of Instructions and Live performance and Mike goes into depth explaining and demonstrating his amazing drum skills.This is a must have for all Mke Portnoy & drum fans.The camera angles are great and you actually get to see all the footwork and hand actions together!This is Mike at his very best!My 5 Stars to this DVD Video!

If you want to hear about the life of a great person and musician who works hard for his fans, this DVD is perfect. Mike Portnoy has done so much for Dream Theater, other bands with other musicians, and his own cover bands. He works hard to achieve his goals, and in the end, really gives the fans so much to enjoy. This DVD is a great addition to his legacy.

When I first discovered Dream Theater I was taken aback by his drumming. Since then I have been a huge DT fan and a fan of his drumming. In Constant Motion is a must for every drummer just because he analyses parts of songs, and then you can see him perform them live. Sometimes I think he is a living drum machine equipped with an unmatched creativity.

the mike portnoy in constant motion dvd is an excelent drum video an indepth look at the style of playing and the man himself. its a three disc dvd covering a lot of subjects fills,studio footage,and live coverage of cocerts with fabulous camera coverage of mike's playing.its not for beginers but for a drummer looking to improve thier drumming its a must .

Soy un superfan de Mike Portnoy, y este dvd fue filmado durante su mejor etapa como baterista. Viene un resumen de sus trabajos con DT, Neal Morse, TA, OSi, etc. Viendolo tocar en estudio y en vivo, con esos drum kits armados a la perfeccion. Ahora esperar que haga otro de estos.

Mike Portnoy es y será siempre uno de mis bateristas favoritos, no sólo explica lo que está tocando, además de eso nos adentra en la historia de cada disco, cada proyecto y cada canción que está en este DVD, las actuaciones en vivo son magistrales y creo que hay muy pocos videos como este que nos expliquen algo más que como tocar bien, la naturalidad y musicalidad de Mike son ¡Increíbles!
