Do you need to season/ condition this? If so what should I get?

Thank you for contacting NewAir. 
The humidor does need to be seasoned. Fill a plastic cup or dish with water and place it inside the humidor. Check the humidity inside the humidor in 24 hours. Slowly but surely the humidifier will emit moisture into the humidor for slow, proper seasoning. Do not add any cigars to your new humidor until the relative humidity reaches 65% to 70%.

What type of humidification/humidifier does it require?

Contrary to some of the previous answers:

Humidity control is not an option, you absolutely need to use some form of control and you should buy and calibrate an accurate digital hygrometer and preferably thermometer to monitor conditions.
I recommend Heartfelt beads or Boveda packs.  You can get 65 and 70% RH from Heartfelt Industries or 69% from Boveda.  You can use the small supplied container to contain the beads and add distilled water to it or you can buy a tube of beads from Heartfelt and add distilled water. The beads don't need replacement, just add water now and then.    Alternatively you can lay in some Boveda packs on the shelves.

My unit does a very good job of controlling the temperature ( a 1 deg F range) during the winter (haven't used it in the summer yet) but runs about 1.5F below the indicated temperature and the  indicated temperature is the same as the thermostat setting. My room is almost always colder than the humidor - in the winter.  Your unit may not be this good which is why you need an independent calibrated thermometer to see if your unit runs hot or cold and who knows, it may drift over time.  I monitor with SensorPush  RH/temp bluetooth sensors, but cheaper less convenient hygrometers are available. In any case they should be calibrated annually.

have had my unit for just more than a year, its flashing LO on the temperature gauge and will not allow mr to adjust the temp. any thoughts??

If the unit is flashing the LO code it means that there is an issue with the NTC sensor, which the newer models no longer have so the PC Board and Cooling Kit would need to be replaced.
