Very Interesting. Good reading.
I have two tattoos from this man. Loved the book, disappointed it didn’t have a few pics of his outstanding work.

Buy it!
Queer history, tattoo history, the 2 together?! This is an amazing recount of 2 not oft spoken about histories and they intertwine beautifully. This is a must read for anyone into queer history and tattoo history.

A fine piece of writing and one hell of a ride through LGBTQ California history.
If you are curious about LGBT history, here is a well written autobiography of a very interesting man. Set in California in the 1980's, Robert Roberts will take you by the hand to explore his favorite haunts along a fascinating timeline. Take it from someone who planted his ass on many of the same beer benches in his favorite bars. Tattooing became another skill of this talented artist, musician and writer and by the time you close the cover, you'll not only get an education about it, you'll know how the gay community used tattoos to punctuate their new found freedoms and console themselves during the AIDS crisis. From the first page to the last, Roberts draws you into his life, loves and history in a way that few writers can do.

Thanks Mad Dog !
Well written and a view to a time that I should have experienced. A good ode to The Ambush, that place which was home, family, and magical (according to all those that I have asked about The 'Bush).

Don't let the name of the book, or the cover, deter you from a good read!!
Fantastic Read! I was unable to put it down and read it in just a few hours. What an amazing journey! Filled with nostalgia and a glimpse at an era gone by, I found this book very intriguing. What a fascinating life Mr. Roberts has lead. Thank you for the window into your life. I felt as though I were in the corner watching the story unfold. When the last page was turned I couldn't help but wonder what the 'end' of the story was and I wanted to know more about the author.I will be reading it again, slower this time, to make sure that I didn't miss a thing!

It is wonderful that Robert kept a diary to be able to ...
Robert is a gifted writer who chronicles his passage through the San Francisco South of Market scene from the early 1980s onward. I was there during that time period and therefore feel a special connection to the colorful history Robert writes about. It is wonderful that Robert kept a diary to be able to share his unique and very interesting story. You won't want to miss reading this book!
