The most accurate translation of the Genesis gameplay into a tabletop setting
Genuinely blown away by how accurate this all is to the actual games, considering it's taking high speed platforming and momentum-based physics of the video games and translating it into a turn based dice rolling tabletop game. You have Acts to maneuver through, items, power ups, badniks, beating all the Acts in a Zone unlocks the boss fight, and you have a whole campaign of 4 Zones to get through. You even get access to a special stage, which is mind blowing. Really the only complaints I have is that all the cards and setting up every Zone can be a lot, but then having to reshuffle the special zone cards takes so much time. Really that's the one major complaint I have with this game, is it can take a while to get through, even when everyone knows what they're doing. That being said, me and the two friends I ran a campaign with had a blast, and while we were kinda running out of steam by the end, the secret unlockables we got from getting all the Chaos Emerald cards made it so so worth it. Oh yeah. Unlockables. This tabletop game has secret unlockables. I'm still absolutely blown away by this fact. I'm aware now that this isn't the first tabletop game to have secret unlockables hidden away in the box for when you reach a certain point in the game, but my god, the feeling of discovering all the cool stuff we unlocked at the end was just so incredible. I'm so glad I got to experience that with friends. I'm not sure how likely it is, but the way this game is made makes it very easily to add more content to, so I'd really love to see expansion packs released sometime in the future. You could easily release new Zones, new playable characters, since they're all confined to a handful of cards. I'm planning to curate some new cards for the game myself for personal use, but man I'd love to see some official expansion packs for the game. Anyway, yeah! Had a great time with it. Has some places it could improve on, but overall a damn good time.

A High-Quality Licensed Game
This is a shockingly good licensed board game that's appropriate for both Sonic fans and serious board game enthusiasts. Despite the gameplay itself being a bit "slow", it still brings out the Sonic experience and feels very much like a Sonic Mania tie-in. The mechanics are simple once you've had maybe one full game to get used to them. A Sonic tie-in board game really has no business being this good, it's definitely not a cheap cash-in on the license at all.

Great for Sonic Fans
My family love this game, the sonic theme does a lot of the heavy lifting though. At its core its a dice rolling and matching game although it is a little complex for most children. My son is younger (6) and plays a lot of strategy board games and I had to walk him though most of his turns. I do think the only reason he stayed invested is because he loves sonic. As an adult I did enjoy the game also, obviously there is luck with any dice rolling games but I also felt that I had interesting choices.
