is this for a 6 year old?

It really depends on the games that said 6 year old will be getting with the system. Yes, it's a good system and is durable to an extent but I'd recommend a 3DS, DS or DS Lite if you want to look at handhelds for 6 year olds. PSPs don't have a gaming catalog that appels to most 6 year olds but could for ages 9+ easily. Of course, that's just personal experience.

Does this item that i ordered come with back cover?

Yes. When you buy a product from a shop owner who say the item is new, the back cover is supposed to be included because then the shop owner would be false advertising, which is a federal offense.
