Frommer's Portable Turks and Caicos Paperback – June 19, 2012

From the illustration you'd think it was the usual slick travel guide, but the only photo is the one on the cover. The text is completely black and white, no photos, 7 maps. I'll take it with me because its small (4¼ x 7&3/8 - 3/8" thick - it IS portable) and it seems to have good restaurant reviews. Also it seems to be the only up-to-date guide available devoted to these islands. I'm not sorry I bought it and I may upgrade my review after using it on site, but it isn't going to whet your appetite for going.I'm back from Turks & Caicos and I'm giving this another star. Since you won't get much guidance or advice from the unfriendly people there (the only amiable ones we encountered there were Haitians), you'll need a guide, and this is current, accurate, and reasonably priced. I understand why there aren't pictures. Its not a scenic place away from the landscaped oceanfront. The "Hole In the Wall" is really worth visiting for a meal, but they don't offer any pickup and return service as the guide says.The diving is great!

I made sure to order the 2012 version of this book before my recent vacation to Turks and Caicos. I found the book to be very useful, and referred to it frequently before and during the trip. However, I am not sure it is really up to date. For example, one night we chose a particular restaurant in Turtle Cove (Banana Boat restaurant) based on the book stating on Tuesday all entrees were 50% off. I happened to mention to a staff memeber at my hotel where we were going and he informed me that restaurant had been closed for 8 or 9 years. Another employee confirmed this fact. Oh well. Just proves you need to check everything out.Overall the book was very worthwhile though and I am am glad I had it.

Frommer's travel books are top notch. I don't travel without one for every adventure. I'm never disappointed and by the way- if you have a bucket list of the most stunningly breathtakingly beautiful places on earth to see, visit Turks & Caicos and being this guide book. It helped us find grocery stores that were the best for certain items as well as insured that we did not miss any of Provo's off the beaten path treasures!

I have heard good things about these books so figured worth a shot, and it really isnt. The island is pretty small and its a tiny country to begin with plus most people don't travel that much between islands because its crazy expensive $50 bucks round trip on the 25 min ferry between provo and north caicos. The info that is helpful is pretty sparse and just in general I was expecting alot more. Tells you about the grocery store and few "helpful hints" but I am staying on provo and all it really told me is how expensive everything is and there isnt alot of stuff to do for cheap.Spend a few hours on trip advisor and make your own "travel guide" useing 5 bucks worth of ink and paper from your printer be just as effective and probably a bit more current.

Good guide, covers the basics of all of the islands and gives good detail about the restaurants and other food options. You should keep it handy when going to Turks & Caicos, the best guide on the islands out there.

I would recommend this guide to everyone. Even with today's technology, this book allows you to access information quicker and more efficiently.Pros- Small enough to take everywhere- Detailed descriptions- Cheap and worth the $Cons- We were looking for places that were new and not in the book yet- Didn't have a strong enough diving opinion

Good info. Not detailed enough but I suppose right for the size. Small size is nice for traveling. Easy index and reference. Worth the price.

Su Turks & Caicos non ci sono molte alternative e questa, pertanto, è stata una scelta forzata. E' una guida abbastanza completa ma decisamente migliorabile.Innanzitutto, mi sarei aspettato almeno una mappa ripiegabile (ho dovuto scaricarla da internet) e (anche a costo di spendere qualcosa in più) qualche illlustrazione colorata.Preferisco decisamente le guide lonely planet...
