Droll Yankees CJTHM23Y 23 inch Finch Flcker Yellow Nyjer Tube Bird Feeder
We have owned many types of feeders from many manufacturers and each has had their good points and their bad points. Here are the good points of this feeder: 1. Well constructed! This is built to last. 2. The top is constructed in such a way as to lock onto the feeder tube making it extremely difficult for an animal to open the top. 3. The yellow color makes it easy to quickly locate the feeder. 4. Holds just enough thistle to not have to constantly refill it and not so much as to allow it to mold. 5. This unit has enough weight to it to keep it from blowing off a hanger in the winds. Here are the not so good points: 1. This unit is expensive if you compare it to some of the others out there that are entirely made of plastic. 2. If you like to constantly replace items, this will be a disappointment because it will probably last you a lifetime! If you do not mind investing good quality, this is an excellent feeder to buy and I would highly recommend it.

Excellent design, finches love this feeder.
This was a new style feeder for my birds to try. I was concerned that they would have a hard time finding the few tiny holes to dispense the seed. The finches had previously been enjoying eating direct from a sunflower seed feeder. It took only a couple of hours for them to try this new feeder out and successfully ate half of the seeds in a 24 hour period. Offering this feeder along with a sunflower feeder and suet has made a wonderful buffet for all kinds of birds this year and we are able to enjoy birds from sun up to sun down. I wish I had gotten a feeder with a few more feeding perches as they now fight over the spaces they love it that much. However, the feeder is so long as is, I didn't want it to be any closer to the ground so opted for this size. The feeder itself is well made with heavy duty metal top and bottom. The seeds remained dry after a hard, blowing rain storm.

Both work great and attract finches as soon as you hang them ...
I own both droll yankees finch flockers - the 23 inch and the 36" one.. Both work great and attract finches as soon as you hang them out. The NYJER seeds have to be fresh. I only buy the ROYAL WING NYJER seeds - the smaller bags because you want the seeds to remain fresh. Finches won't eat dry or wet seeds. I prefer the larger one because you will see more birds but both sizes work great. So if you want to see about 6 to 8 finches get the smaller one... If you want to see a show with 20 birds - get the larger one... I prefer the 36" one because the finches are so cute and entertaining. I also clean the feeders every time I refill them with fresh seeds to keep my birds healthy. Highly recommend both both finch flockers. :-)

Happy Goldfinches
We are now on the third year of use for this great Droll Yankees finch feeder. We live in the Southwest with mild winters and hot summers (3 months with 100+ temperatures daily). The goldfinches flock to this feeder year round. It is very easy to refill and just as easy to clean. We have to refill the feeder about twice a week. It hangs on a tall iron shepherd's hook, so the squirrels can't get to it.

I was going to write a wonderful review after this little tube filled with Nijer seed ...
I was going to write a wonderful review after this little tube filled with Nijer seed attracted a gorgeous goldfinch couple who ate from this religiously right outside my sliding glass doors. I actually bought another to hang in my dogwood right outside my picture window; however, just recently I found that both feeders had huge opening cut out of them. Some animal ate huge holes through the plastic!I'm not even sure what type of animal would be able to do this. We don't have bears around here but we do have raccoons. Also thought Nijer seed were not favorite rodent food due to their small size and somewhat bitter taste. Now I'm thinking of getting a squirrel flipper but the nice thing about these Nijer seed dispensers is that they are specific for feeding finches and and other small birds so that the larger ones don't bother them. I'm so disappointed as now I'm not sure what to replace these with.

It's OK
Let's start with the fact that the birds empty it in a hurry. They also empty the sock that hangs next to it. So they both work.A lot of the pix for these feeders show the birds all the way up the feeder. This is not the case with this feeder, there are only perches and the adjacent feeding "holes" on the bottom 1/3rd to 1/2.The feeder is made of slick hard plastic there is no chance that the birds will ever feed anywhere else but the designated perch. The material should be durable and mechanically its a dead simple assembly so I would expect it to last in our New Mexico sun. That said, there is nothing natural looking or feeling about the feeder. This may or may not bother you.Given its length and diameter, it is awkward to fill. Not sure what the manufacturer can do about it except to provide a funnel notched to accommodate the wire that runs through the body and holds the top on.Finally there is cost - this costs about as much as 8-10 feeder bags...

Droll Yankee's are the BEST
I have purchased from Droll Yankee many times, and this is my third thistle feeder (just a different size). This 23 inch is a great in-between from the shorter 6 perch and the very long executive size that needs some room to swing if the wind starts blowing. I have the Droll Yankee deck mounting system with alternate dish feeders and that can be a concern for me. These feeders are constructed so well, with very sturdy bottoms and tops and aluminum perches. I have had raccoons try and pry the lids up, but can't do it. This feeder is not advertised as squirrel proof and I don't understand people who rate this product poorly because of that. Droll Yankee has an armored thistle feeder if squirrels are a concern, or place it in a basket. Their customer service is amazing and you can get replacement tubes, pretty easy to do. Great company that I will continue to buy from.

Finch Feeder
We have had several Droll Yankees Finch Feeders over the years. Our mid west weather eventually takes a toll but it takes years. This was the year. We have two of these and know we will have them for several years before they need to be replaced. We enjoy watching the finches eating in the summer and winter so have one out front and one out back of our home.

Birds love it
I fill this with Nyjer seeds and the finches in my area love it. This came recommended by a neighbour that has a much taller one. I am happy with the quality. It is also easy to open and close for filling. Also, follow the directions and clean your feeders often people. Enjoy the birds.

As described
My finches took a little to find the feed holes..but now they are eating and happy. Virtually no mess or wasted seed.
