If your camera app has separate photo and video modes, the Shutterbug will trigger whichever camera mode the app is set to. If you are using a camera app that has both a still photo and a video record button on the screen at the same time, there is likely a setting in the camera app's menus that will allow you to assign different functions to the volume buttons. The Shutterbug will trigger whatever function the volume buttons are set to. The Shutterbug is not capable of switching between photo and video recording remotely. Thank you for your question!

The Bluetooth app is used to pair the Xenvo Shutterbug with your phone. And the Xenvo Shutterbug triggers the volume key of the phone to take photo. Hope this helps.
