Comfortable and stable fit, sturdy construction
I've owned many Wellco boots over the years but this is only my second pair of 'new style' desert/warm weather boots. Old style military/duty boots tend to have little to no ankle support while the new generation of tactical boots feature padded shafts and tongues reinforced with plastic, rubber, or webbing. I bought these Wellco X-4orce boots after buying the Wellco Spartan boots, another new tactical model. (See my review of the Spartans under that product page.)I have a wide foot and my 12-wide boots fit very comfortably. They are wide at the forefoot where I need the width but the heel area holds my heel without being too tight. I have a big 'knuckle' on the big toe of my right foot and some boots are uncomfortable across the top surface of my right foot, at least until they break in. These X-4orce boots are comfortable across the top of my foot even when laced firmly. The shaft is comfortably padded, the tread seems to be just grippy enough to give me good traction off-road without feeling slippery or overly grippy on concrete or carpet. The insole is cushioned but firm and these boots feel like a broken-in pair of sneakers. If I had to choose, I would probably choose the X-4orce over the Spartan because the X-4orce seems to be more comfortable out of the box, but the Spartans are certainly a well-made model of boot. NOTE: The Spartans have vented air/drainage holes at the instep and the X-4orce do not. I live in a very dry climate with temperate weather most of the year so I can wear either three seasons but if drainage hole are important to you, you will not find any on the X-4orce.

Hard to boot to size correctly
I had to order these boots twice and they are still too big. I wear a size 10.5W but they were too small with this boot. So I went one size larger and they are entirely too big. I had one of my battle buddies try them on and they fit him fine but he wears a size 13. Also, the tonge of the boot is a full inch thick (too thick) for summer boots. They also hace a locking loop for the laces. If you review the picture, its the loop that doesnt look like the others and its further back then the others. It makes it very dificult to lace and unlace the boots. You cannot put these boots on in a hurry which does not make a good military boot. I dont know if they are comfortable or not see as thoug I cant get the correct size so good luck. Thus far, I would not refer these boots. I give three stars only because I like the way they look.

Typical Wellco 5 star shtf boots
I wore these for one day around the house for a break in period. Comfy,no break in period needed. Then I took em out hiking. These Wellco X Force 8 inch suede boots are great. So very comfortable and great on the trail. Many times over am I a return customer to Wellco footwear. The tread is very grippy, I climbed steep hills and went down some steep hills, when I break in my boots I take em out for a hardcore hike so I can know weather they are worthy of being SHTF boots. The lacing system is sufficient, not speedlace but easy enough to lace. The ankle support is very good, on my first hike I never even questioned the ankle support so thats good. Even without the side zip they are easy on and off, Actually I didn't want the zip because I want to use these boots for backpacking and a sidezip could fail out in the backwoods(not good). As comfortable as they were first out of the box, my feet still felt the same way when I took my new Wellco boots off after a 5 mile break in hike.UPDATE; I wore these boots on a 20 mile hike; at the end even though my feet were tired I had no soreness and blister free feet. The ankle suppport is also the best. I run a plenty and used these as winter running boots in snow. True after 5 miles of running in snow they were soaking wet but the tread performed outstandingly I never have no slips. As said unless your going to be in snow, these are perfect shtf boots

great for non movers
okay i got these boots back about 4 months ago, i had been doing a tour in afghanistan , we did dismounts, convors, force pro for cobs and fobs and about the last month these boots went to shit! they are soft and nice looking, but more or less ment for people that do not walk run or do any kind of work, first the shoe laces started falling apart then the soul of the boot started coming off, and lastly the seams are now breaking, they weight just as much as black hawks and even tho black hawks get a 3 start in my book (cuz they still like to fall apart on some u get) these books get a easy 1.4 star
