This is a great product but the shrink-wrap behaves in an odd way. Sometimes it billows out instead of shrinking, so it is hard to tell whether you have overheated the plastic or not heated it enough. Meanwhile the adhesive inside can completely liquify while you are shrinking the plastic, making it hard to use a brayer to smooth it down. Maybe my technique is bad. Also be aware this is a wrap, not a sleeve, and it is not as long as the sleeves. I would suggest using the sleeves they sell instead if you have a standard 4x4 post. Lastly, the instructions are kind of vague and say to use the product only on a "dry post" (which pressure treated posts never are) or failing that to "spot dry" the post before use. It does not explain what spot drying is.

These are pretty cool. Put them on a few fence posts that I had to put back up after fence blew down in a wind storm. Instructions were clear and application was easy.

These were easy to wrap around the pole. Hoping they do as they say they do and prevent rot tired of having to rebuild my fence. Great solution will update if it doesn’t work how I am hoping!

It is interesting to read the wide range of reviews, which reflect that variable circumstances lead to drastically different application outcomes. Let's begin with your understanding of the description "heatshrink": If you expect that means something like the heatshrink tubing you are used to working with, you will be disappointed. This is an open-ended wrap, and there is no guidance to suggest how that open end might be sealed to form a tube, which could then be shrunk. There is some shrinkage, but it is offset by deformation of the plastic sheath. All of the 1-star reviews note this disappointment. The two biggest variables are temperature control and rolling device. - Temperature control is a function of ambient temperature (particularly post and product) and your heat source. The heat source might vary from a hair dryer or underpowered heat gun to a propane torch. Some users may have a heat gun, some not. Some may have a propane torch, some not. You just can't get consistent results from user to user with such huge variability. - The rolling device is important for even, consistent results. Ideally it should (a) be the width of the post (or little wider), with (b) one corner-hugging end like an edging trowel, and (c) have the surface of a wallpaper seam roller. IOW, you want not really like a paint roller, but a roller exactly like the one shown in the product video "Postsaver Post Rot Protection Sleeves". It would be nice if Postsaver included or at least sold such a tool. Good luck finding it anywhere else! The two most helpful pieces of advice in these reviews are: 1) If possible, do a practice run, to help you learn what the variables are and how to mitigate them. 2) Reviewer "Chumley" suggests not even trying to wrap first then shrink it. Instead he recommends removing the starter tape and letting the wrap hang down over the post, while heating the starter strip to get it to stick - then work your way around the post (turning the post as you go), warming the post and heating the wrap to stretch the wrap down on the post. Then you have it stretched around the post (in a way that you can't do while everything is cold) and can then get some shrinkage and smoothing around the post envelope. After trying, I agree that approach seems to work much better than the skimpy directions on the package. Finally, though, it is tough not to agree with reviewers like "6" who see all these variables and question whether the product's fussy application makes sense when compared to simply applying tar directly.

Worked well for 4x4 posts, heat them and they adhere to the wood, great protection against ground moisture!
