Work and fit as described but has a strange smell. They smelled when they came out of the package. I washed them hoping it would go away but got stronger and now the entire tank smells like them. Water test is fine, it's a 105 gallon turtle tank, but the smell is slowing filling the house being all the water is passing through them and it's open to the air. Hopefully it will go away over time, but as of now, a few days in use, they smell. I wish I could describe the smell but it's strange. Like a clean stale plastic, it's not that bad of a smell,just very noticeable. I have been using the FX5 since it came out and have never encountered this before.

Sponges arrived as described, brand new, ahead of delivery date which is always nice when you're need of A filter change. I had been using the cheaper compatible foams the past couple years (with a modified dual intake (Ebay $38) & two 6in long sponges ($10 on Aquarium Co-op) as prefilters I'm only changing/cleaning internal pads once every 6 months. I think everyone should make this modification to maximize their FX6 (I'll include an image) with increased surface area, coarse filtration, extended canister cleaning intervals, healthier bio media, so on. You just clean those sponges once a week & pull them off with a filter sock, fish net, or plastic bag to prevent detritus from escaping, I love it!! Back to the review, the cheaper pads had turned a yellow color over time while still in the bag. Clearly, they're inferior quality & I've only had varying degrees of success with them in the first place. I'll just spend the extra money for the Fluval pads from now on. Especially after my intake upgrade. These 9 pads total did cost $50 though. So, I guess people are always going to be attracted to the cheaper ones & I can't blame them. I'll just continue to wait until I see a deal/sale on them or until I need to buy them. I needed the pads, I wanted highest quality possible, this was my best option. No regrets here.

Only one box was delivered out of three boxes. Filter uses 4 blocks so a box of 3 filters is of little use. Delivery note was ambiguous and confused.

Need new filter foam blocks and these work great for my FX5.
