Excellent 3 finger back tension release
I am a new archer and have used the Carter Evolution 3 finger for the last couple of months and favor it compared to the Carter Silverback which i also own. The Carter Evolution is well machined and of high quality (albeit expensive). The main difference is that the Silverback is a 2 finger release and feels very slightly fatter. My coach actually recommended that i use the 3 finger Carter Evolution. Beyond that they are the same. The internals are the same on both releases and they are both adjustable back tension activated with thumb safeties that you press down during the first phase of your draw to lock it down and then release the thumb safety when you start your expansion step. For me it took a couple months to learn how to improve the expansion step of my technique and to dial in the release weight of the Carter Evolution. I have read that most folks will go through an adjustment period with this type of release.. so do your research, be patient and focus on slow steady expansion.

My favorite purchase in this hobby
Knowing myself and that I tend to anticipate the shot while shooting a rifle, I wanted to avoid developing a habit I'd have to break later. I trust Mr. Dudley and would've loved to buy a Silverback, but they're always out of stock so his loss.As I understand it, this is the same release essentially. The third finger grip may be removed for the silverback, but I love the feel of this one with it.I definitely needed to replace the spring that it shipped with. I tested it at the range and it went off instantly (I had to delete several jokes about prom here). I do not have a heavy bow. I shoot a bear cruzer g2, set and measured at 42lbs draw. There's an 80% let off on this bow, so that leaves 8.5 lbs on the string. Even if I were pulling slightly against the back wall, it still shouldn't release yet. Long story short, the stock spring was way too weak.I had trouble finding an anchor point with this release. I compromised by removing 1/2" from my draw, which lined my pointer knuckle right with the rear most point of the jaw. As long as I keep my hand flat and don't allow the wrist to turn like a trigger release I have the back tension set up right where I like it.

Excellent tension release
Excellent tension release. I use it primarily as a training aide. Set the tension 4-5 lbs over your hold weight, then hold the safety and draw. Once you're at full draw, release to brake, aim, focus, and press forward a little with the bow hand while pullIng the elbow of the release hand straight back. I begin each practice session by shooting my first few arrows with this release. I feel it helps ingrain a more pure release when I switch to my thumb trigger.

Worth the money
Works fantastic, I shot a Silverback for a while. I prefer this one. It came in black not red.

Great back tension trainer
Well made as you would expect for a release this expensive. I use it for practice to isolate my back tension muscles. I never really understood why back tension was so important. Now when I use my other releases (thumb, forefinger, or hinge ones) I make a point to incorporate back tension. It amazes me how much more consistent my shots are when I make a point in my shot sequence to apply it.

13 year old archer loves it!
My son has been shooting in competitions since he was 7 and hunting since he was 10. He started practicing with a borrowed back tension release about a year ago and he loved it. This was the first back tension release he owned and he still uses it, but he has also added the four finger model to his Carter collection and he has a another as well. Shooting with a back tension release is not for everyone, and there are many variations in style. Since they are not cheap you would be wise to ask to try one or many out at a local archery range before deciding on a purchase.
