Q: If I use it on a sterling silver ring will the darkness last or will it wear off?

I don't know how it reacts with silver but I just put this on a copper stove hood and I can honestly say it will never come off without acid and some major scrubbing. The best tips I can give you are, make sure you use hot water (I used boiling) and to mix this outside, this stuff is potent. For a ring I would boil a cup of water and put a very small piece in and stir it until it dissolves. Dip the ring and see if it's dark enough. If not, add another small piece until it's the correct shade. Good luck.

Don’t remember the ratio I used but I know I tried many ways to make it work and it didn’t work for me- I hope u have better luck than I did

Sorry, I don't know. I bought it to turn copper black since it chemically reacts with copper. I don't think it would react with the porcelain of a bathtub, but it still might stain it.

It will work on brass if the brass is hot and you have made fresh, hot liver of sulfur.
