How long does the battery last?

It depends; immediately after unboxing and charging to full: about 2 hours. 3-4 weeks later: you might as well never unplug the charger.

Does this battery work for psp 1001? Do you need the wall charger or can you use the usb charger ?

The battery fit and worked in my PSP-1001, though the capacity plummeted after a month or so. I never tried charging via USB, I only used the wall charger.
