A £25,000 reward offered by a local newspaper brings documentary makers Matt and his girlfriend Georgia to the remote North Devon moor in a bid to capture the fabled Beast purported to be a wild cat, like a panther or a puma on film.

Heroine in a bra
A pair of really rather annoying Americans, who I can guarantee you are not Americans (why do they keep getting English people to play transatlantic when we lack the vowels?), decide to hunt a big cat on Exmoor in order to capture photographic proof of its existence and claim a massive reward. It just so happens that the girl’s silver fox ex is going to be on the hunt as well. But he knows what they’re really hunting for. And it isn’t a cat.Very dimly lit, some of the action is a bit difficult to follow because it’s hard to see. It does become more obvious through the use of a bit of strobing, a flare and death by really big rock which, somehow, god knows, lightens the overall palette of the thing. Now, you might say it’s a cheap trick, stripping the heroine down to her bra. And it is. But there’s no doubting her vulnerability. I have, however, a lot of doubt that she’d be able to run in it.Look how thin those straps are. That thing wouldn’t support a hamster.

Shot in the dark (literally).....
Two young Americans travel to the UK to visit Exmoor and investigate supposed panther sightings in the area. They are joined by a hunter who one of them has engaged to help them track down the panthers. However there is more going on than just roaming panthers and instead they find dead bodies. They then realise that they have put themselves in a dangerous situation. If this type of story sounds familiar, it is. This is another example of a group of people going out into the wilderness with little chance of outside help, with some of them getting killed. And while that's fine, the problem with this film is that a full two thirds of it is filmed in almost complete darkness, making a lot of the scenes almost impossible to see. At times you just have to listen to the dialogue to work out what is going on.Getting past the darkness, there are a few good ideas injected towards the end but there is really nothing delivered that makes the story stand out.Not many scares are delivered, it's too dark and there's no real original content. It adds up to an ordinary viewing experience.

GOLD! [rental]
Title refers to this being the final movie from Frightfest '14 I was waiting for.Actually, I'd heard some bad things about it, though not always from reliable sources. I'd begun to wonder whether it was going to be something of an anticlimax as far as my catching up goes.Alright, there IS a scene where you can't see what's going on. Not really excusable, but a few reviews seem to exaggerate this. Some characters do odd things at times when its most inconvenient, apparently, to move the story further along. It isn't the best writing. However, the characters were charismatic (Georgia, like the protagonists in many horror films, is a bit bland though). That made me enjoy the movie much more than I otherwise would've, but overall it is quite bland.

Generic
Two young americans head to Exmoor to try to capture footage of the Big Cats said to roam the area, hiring a local hunter to track them. This then descends into a generic slasher film with a masked serial killer in a dark wood.Ignore the misleading Amazon description- this isnt a "creature feature", its a cheap, generic predictable slasher movie that offers little to nothing new beyond the killer's accent. Reasonably shot and the acting isnt too horrendous, but otherwise theres not much praiseworthy.

Good thriller.
I found the plot intriguing, and the scenery compelling and beautiful.

Give it a miss
I managed to watch a whopping 25 minutes before switching off. The acting is painful, the plot predictable and flimsy.

Not a creature feature
This film is not a creature feature despite what the blurb says.
