Guys with 5,000 hiking miles under their belts will tell you: the utility kilt is the new short. Built for comfort under a pack, with a soft, seamless chamois lined waist, full back pleats for mobility and an easy fit waist with integrated belt. You'll love the airflow and mobility of the kilt.

Much better than a Utilikilt for hiking.
This thing is nice. My other kilts tend to get sweaty and then chilly while hiking. This one wicks the moisture away and dries quickly. We got a nice thundershower during one hike and this was the first item of clothing to dry. I have worn it all over this summer and not one Marylin Monroe moment, with the wind showing anyone what actually is under my kilt. It did flap a bit and make me wonder a couple times, but no forest creatures were traumatized. I was very impressed with the chamois padding inside the waist. It really sucked the moisture away and made my 35lbs pack no bother to carry. The synthetic fabrics are far superior to cotton out on the trail. Around town I will probably stick with Utilikilts.

Super comfortable kilt great for outdoor activities
This is my second Elkomando Kilt, I wanted a second color because I like the kilt so much. The Elkomando Kilt is the perfect kilt for outdoor activities like hiking or, in my case, disc golf. I found that the kilt helps to keep me cool even on hot, humid days. When I encountered a light rain, the water wicked off the kilt and didn't even make it damp. I even took a swim in the kilt once and while it's not the best swimsuit, it dried out in record time afterwards! It's made from lightweight and comfortable nylon with a super soft waist material that makes wearing the kilt in the regimental fashion even more comfy. The pockets are perfect for your phone or other items and are located sensibly. The belt has a secure fastening and keeps the kilt lightweight. The buttons are surrounded by extra material making them durable and they don't come undone. There are a few things that you should know about this kilt. First off, it turns heads. Because this kilt isn't a heavy duty cargo/utility kilt or a wool tartan it has a different wear to it and ladies often notice it. I've had more compliments from women about this kilt than any of the other kilts I own. My wife says that it makes my backside look great! Second, the kilt tends to be a little more difficult to manage when sitting down. Other kilts I own tend to droop between my legs when I sit keeping the up-kilt view blocks. Fortunately, there's an extra button to snap between the legs so you can keep that up-kilt view from accidentally happening. Third, and this was mentioned elsewhere, this kilt fits a bit more snugly across the front and on occasion there's a hint of what's under the the kilt noticeable. If you're uncomfortable with a bit of a package bump then I'd suggest to going regimental in this kilt.

More “skirt-like” than most kilts
The Elkommando kilt is not your typical modern kilt— not bad, just different. Being the owner of several higher-end utility style kilts, I have been curious about Mountain Hardwear’s now discontinued(?) kilt which has gotten favorable reviews. The kilt itself is very comfortable and light weight. The “modesty” snap is kind of a waste in my opinion— too awkward. The kilt is not as A-line as other kilts, which gives it a slightly more restrictive feel, particularly when sitting. I like the comfortable feel of it, but probably will not wear it around town due to its cargo skirt-like appearance. The pockets are okay, but are taxed a bit with a cell phone, keys, wallet and change. The belt is a little cheesy but functional. The material also wrinkles fairly easy, so if crisp, flat pleats are what you want, this will require regular maintenance. All this being said, the Elkommando kilt is a decent product for comfort and overall tailoring, but know and understand what you are getting. It’s not a true kilt, even in the modern sense. Would I buy another? Possibly, since it looks like it is discontinued product.

Amazing material, modesty issues.
+/-'s. Much more comfortable than my normal utility kilt. Softer & lighter material, feels great. Modesty is main complaint. The thin material in front allows a visible male "silhouette". Measured per instructions, ordered suggested size plus one larger. Traditional Scottish kilts have a sporran hanging front & center, keeps things hidden. Dont want/need a sporran, just seeking a lighter kilt for hiking, yardwork, and still suitable for trips to town. Tried using a jockstrap and "performance" underwear, this helped but did NOT eliminate the problem. And 2 layers of compression underwear somewhat defeats the purpose of the kilt. The Elkcommando is tight in the front, the last thing a man wants. Felt normal on sides and back, but something about the design is different. Like a pencil skirt. It would work for someone with a straight-slim build and a flat butt. I'm older (mid 50's), with a bit of a belly and backside. The design and light material were not a good match for my physique. Disappointed, but will stick with the "utility" kilt for now. Heavier material, and comfortably roomy all around.

Wrong Size... But love it!
Read a could reviews before purchasing... "athletic build... 31" waist"... "150lbs"... "32" waist... 160lbs"... don't know if I have their stats verbatim... both said the medium was a bit snug. I am 164lb... 34" waist... I went for the large based on these reviews... and found that the large was too big. I think the medium would be a better fit... I have a few wrinkles around the waist but will keep it anyway... maybe I will be wearing a heavier top that I will tuck in... maybe I will gain weight... next time and there will a next time I will order a medium. I have been wanting a hiking kilt... and this is the one... I really liked it...

cool and breezy
if you have never hiked in a kilt, you probably won't understand. this ones for hot weather, as the material is light weight. has a modesty button which I like, and the pockets are pretty handy, but not my favorite kilt. I like the wool poly blends as they weigh a little more ( better in windy conditions) and a little warmer (which is a plus mornings and evenings in the pacific north west). I still use it, just not as much as my casual kilt. no problems with workmanship or quality, although if fits kind of tight, if they tried it again, maybe improved on this one, I would be willing to buy again

I own two of these and they're great. Super comfortable and they look nice
I own two of these and they're great. Super comfortable and they look nice. I have a 42" - 43" waist so I got the XXL (also labeled 2XL). And the fit is good.

Love the kilt, sad that it appears they have stopped manufacturing them.

good length. It's heavier than I was expecting
Comfy, good length. It's heavier than I was expecting, but it's made out of excellent material and is a little water resistant, at least for dew and stuff, but will get soaked in...

The ultimate hiking kilt
Fantastic kilt and even better than I had hoped. Quality, durable construction. Sizing is perfect. Lightweight material for quick drying and great airflow, but tough enough to be...

Great Skirt!
I really like this skirt. I like that the belt is easily removable and appreciate the buttons on either side of the flap so it doesn't blow open.

I very much like my Mountain Hardware Kilts. I have two of them and I wear one almost every day.

Restrictive like a tight skirt for woman
I have 4 kilts. 3 from DNKE and this. I love two really like the third but this thing sucks!!! I felt like it was more of a skirt than a kilt as it restricts leg movement.
