East of West Volume 3: There Is No Us

Hickman is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers in comics today. East of West continues to be the most intriguing and compelling books i've read in a long time. He has created an alternate American history that is a fantastical mixture of science fiction, mysticism, American culture, cowboys, Indians, the apocalypse, Kung-Fu warriors, and the kitchen sink. BUT IT ALL WORKS!!! And its awesome. Highly recommended read from the start. Volume 3 starts off with a bang, full introduces a lot of sub-characters, clears a lot of the previous narratives lines up, and end with a kick to the teeth. Great read!

If you have good understanding of the first two books, this volume does a great job of tying in the story lines. The art is engaging and consistently amazing.

East of West, Vol. 3 is the story of the American nations at war. It takes place, like the two previous volumes, in an alternate America which has been divided into six or seven different nations. Of course, it can be seen as a metaphor for America in the 21st century, divided into factions along racial and geographic lines. And of course, there is Death, along with the Beast, and the Four Horsemen. Quite a lot is going on.Weird, wonderful, beautiful, and yet hard to read, East of West, Vol. 3 epitomizes what an adult comic should be like. War comes at just the right time, as there are too many characters to keep track of, too many situations. The series is one that you should read and reread. It's very good, even if this isn't as good as the first two volumes. I still liked it very much and look forward to Vol. 4. ****1/4

one of the best comic series out there

This is one of the most unique comic experiences I've ever had. It's incredible in every possible way. I would recommend it to anyone.

The best graphic novel I have ever read! I dream about making this into a live action film. So radicle!

It doesn't get any better than Hickman on East of West. Dragotta's art is a perfect compliment to this sci-fi western.

A gift for my brother for Xmas. Haven't read them but the front of the volume was scuffed with a black mark that was stubborn to get off :/
