Helps protect align and seat the seal
It did the job... But the bolts provided with the tool were not long enough to thread into the crankshaft. Ended up just driving the tool with a mallet. Also had issues with the rough surface finish where the driver contacts the seal lip. This made it very difficult to remove the driver without also removing the seal. Eventually got it to work and no leaks so far.

Hope this helps!
I bought this seal tool to replace another one that was misplaced. I mainly needed it for a 1985-1999 FORD 5.0l engine use. The holes in this tool Do Not line up with the crankshaft flywheel holes, even though they say it works for the 5.0l Ford, they have to be ground out to work. The bolts supplied also are the wrong size and too short, so you'll have to by some different bolts also. The tool does fit the crankshaft and seal correctly. The main thing in using this tool is to be very, very careful when putting your seal on the tool as it will fit tight. If your not careful you will roll, pinch and damage the dust sealing lip that is your first line of protection for your seal. I install the seal backwards on the seal tool for a few minutes which will temporarily stretch it, then flip it and work it on the tool to install it. Let the seal set on the crankshaft after install for several hours, I allow overnight, to allow it time to shrink back to size before starting engine. Work in a very clean fashion with a rear seal install & you might not be repeating it in 1000 miles or so! Follow seal instalation instructions for your particular type of seal. Good luck!

Seal tool
It worked but not as specified as it claimed to be. It will work on other applications

Worked but required modification.
It worked, but not in it's original form. I found it impossible to get the new seal on the tool without starting to fold the outer seal. I cut the outer lip off and just used it as a forcing tool to force the seal in. It's much easier to just slip the seal over the end of the crank and use the tool to force the seal in evenly. Worked great and didn't leak. Installed in an 01 ford ranger with the 2.5 engine in it.

Well made tool
I ordered this item to replace the rear main seal in my son's Ford Mustang 4.6L engine. It is well made and got the job done EXCEPT the bolts that ship with it are not long enough to grab the flywheel bolt holes to pull the seal into place. They are an unusual thread which is fairly difficult to find so I lined everything up correctly and then GENTLY tapped the seal into place with a rubber mallet using the tool (apparently seal depth is critical and that is why this tool is essential for the job). Seemed to work well. The Ford Service manual mentions an "adapter kit" which looks like a couple of longer bolts that is used for this motor with this tool. I would recommend this tool for seal installation as long as you're aware of the bolt issue.

Right tool for right job!
This is the correct tool and works perfectly on the application it’s meant for! The problem is Amazons description and lack of instructions by the maker. If your using it on a 2003 Ford 3 liter OHC it’s the correct tool, I’m sure there are many more applications. There is no other way to properly install this seal, or you’ll be back taking everything apart. You need to use a Mahle gasket and slide it around the tool. Attach the tool to the crank and tighten it in. It will fit perfectly!!!

Waste of Money
Miserable waste of money. Doesn’t drive the seal in far enough for the oil slinger seal that goes on top of the oil seal for dust and etc. Doesn’t fit over the crankshaft and the bolts are too short. Super bad design, I just ended up using RTV on the outside and pushed it in by hand and used calipers to measure the depth of the four quadrants

Horrible Product! Damages the seal!
All this did was tear the spring out of the seal. The inside lip is to deep. The bolts aren’t long enough to get started. Now I have to get a new seal. Returning for a refund. OTC really needs to rethink this tool. Definitely not worth the money or the hassle. Now I have to dig the new seal out and replace. I guess I’m out of money for the seal.
