These disks are a simple and safe way to start coals with the EZ starter. With other starters that require igniting crumpled paper beneath there will always be residual paper ash potentially flying around when you lift it to pour. With the EZ starter you simply lift once the EcoStart Disk has heated the coals and the coals simply remain in place. No flying paper ash or hot embers from pouring res hot coals.

This product works with the EZ Start Charcoal Chimney System - I've had the chimney and the disks for about a year - it's a decent system with a few pretty serious drawbacks: - a single disk isn't really enough to get the charcoal going, so be ready to use 2 at a time - if you do use a single disk, and the coals don't get going, you really see the design flaw: you've got a handful of hot coals on the bottom, but cold coals on the top and no real way to restart the system without a giant mess. I've basically had to dump out the coals, double up the disks in the chimney, and then figure out which coals are cool enough to re-add back to the chimney.I really want to like this but it's just not as well thought out as it could be.
