Do not buy refreshed from a private vendor
I was disappointed by this product. It was filthy when I received it, it was in a very used condition. Paint on the warmer plated had worn off, calcium build up around the hinge for the water reservior, was so dusty I could leave "clean" streaks by rubbing my finger over it. The cover for the water did not close correctly and the cover for the pot was broken. Returned to the seller over 2 weeks ago and have hear nothing from him. Will never buy a "refreshed" or "refurbished" item again

makes good coffee, but has big design flaws
This coffee maker makes good coffee, but there are bugs in the design that will really bug you.First, if you use the automatic timer and the auto shut-off, it is easy to forget that the timer is still set and the coffee pot will start "doing its thing" whether or not you have put water and coffee in it for the next morning.Second, a light flashes to indicate when the filter should be changed. The only way I have found to stop the flashing light, which does not stop upon replacement of the filter, is to unplug the pot which, of course, means resetting the clock and the timer each time. Additionally, the filters must be mail-ordered. Stores that sell the coffee-maker, such as Bloomingdale's, Sur La Table, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc. don't bother to carry the filters.Third, it is essential that you replace the carafe in exactly the right way otherwise the gizmo that allows you to pour a cup before the brew cycle is finished will remain closed. What that means is that the coffee can't drip down into the carafe so the filter area will fill with water and then overflow with coffeegrounds onto your counter. What a mess!I've never owned a coffee-maker with so many design flaws. I bought this one because I've had good luck with other Krups models, but they blew it on this one.

A Couple Design Flaws
The lid has no hinge and so requires two hands to open. The opening for pouring in the water is small and a bit awkward to get at. Otherwise fine.

New, Improved
I owned this pot when it first came out, a bunch of years ago. I have to say the new one I got this week is entirely that - new. The shape of the pot is somewhat different and it is easier to pour without drips. There is even a small opening on the back to collect the condensation that runs down the back on the outside. The controls feel much more substantial, and some are now mechanical (the digital ones went on my old pot.)I replaced another Krups pot, Aroma Control, because it couldn't make a decent pot of coffee. All the Krups I've owned over the years, that was the first time I had THAT problem. I was frustrated reading the reviews looking for comparisions. I've had them all - this is one of my favorites for its shape and the quality of the coffee - the coffee tends to be slightly cooler than the ProAroma, but the taste is just as good, and I think its more attractive. I've ditched the water filter in all my models, and they all make great coffee without the filter - just use good water if you can. Except the AromaControl which just doesn't make good coffee with or without the filter!

Excellent Coffee Maker
I received this Krups as a gift in 1999 and it has worked flawlessly ever since. No, I can't find the water filters for it and haven't looked for them either. I've never needed water filters for my coffee, have you? Also, it's never leaked. I suppose that it's never leaked because of two reasons: I seem to have an uncanny ability to put the carafe back in the machine the right way and I don't seem to have a need to dump a cup of coffee into my mug in .0023 seconds. Take your time people, it won't leak if you don't pour at an angle of 175 degrees. If you're that much of a snob, just stick to your starbucks and fuel our economy. If you just like a good cup of coffee, this is the machine. It has a small footprint on the counter, it's easy to fill the reservoir, and it is a clean little machine. It doesn't over steam and create condensation under my cabinets like other snob machines. I love this coffee maker, and as long as it keeps working, it'll stay on my counter. I don't expect my coffee maker to do my taxes, watch my kids, and change the oil in my car. I just expect it make coffee.

Yes, it does have design flaws
Enjoyed reading reviews of the design flaws of this coffee maker. I agree with the user who says she doesn't use filters. Neither do I. My water is already filtered. (You can get the filters at some stores, ie Bed, Bath and Beyond.)The flashing light is very annoying, resetting the unit is a pain. An important note about leaking carafes. I have had my unit for about ten years, so I have had several carafes. Some carafes leak no matter how slight an angle you pour at, except for dribble. Other carafes do not leak even if you tip the pot to 90 degrees. This is a quality control issue. With one pot, my mother would always pour it all over the counter, when she visited, no matter how many times I showed her the dribble angle. Also, the lid of my unit is showing signs of aging after all this time, so it has a slight warp, which causes the top to sometimes not sit properly and for water to leak out onto the counter top. This is an annoyance, but, hey, the thing is ten years old. Overall I have found it to be a long lasting and reliable coffee maker, despite the design flaws, and I would have to see some convincing data before I replaced it with another model.
