FRYE Men's Jones Chukka Boot

This is review is for the suede chukkas. After the third exchange I finally found a pair that had I liked. Beware, in the four examples of Jones suede chukkas I had, i observed that the the tongues are cut relatively unevenly (width-wise, side to side) on both boots such that one of quarters barely covered the tongue sufficiently to hide the socks. In the photo you can see how one side of the tongue is cut further away from the outside quarter than the inside quarter. None of my other chukkas are cut this way. I also don't like how the toe puffs are showing on both boots. Suede quality is fantastic!

I love Frye boots so I purchased these for my son for Christmas. I ordered the normal size he wears and they were at least a size too big. We sent them back and ordered the size down, they fit, look beautiful, and they are the quality we expected from Frye. However, the leather sole is very stiff. I suppose we have become spoiled with rubber inserts in the bottom of shoes, but it will take a long time for these to break in. He has had them since Christmas and wears them for a few hours about three times a week and they are still difficult for him to wear for a longer period of time. Thankfully his feet won't be growing anymore, so he has years to break them in. They are more like dress shoes than a traditional Chukka boot. He likes them and they look great with jeans, just a little disappointed with how stiff the soles are.

These are very well made shoes nice thick well finished leather and provide great support. They are heavy (if that bothers you) and I expect they will need breaking in but I see that as a measure of quality and a good thing. Checked these out at the Frye store and was put off by the c$300 price tag but I paid less than $150 on Amazon so excellent VFM and why I gave 5 stars.

The leather sole appears to be welted. Just note that the sole protrudes a few mm outward from the actual size of the shoe.

too early for a review, i have worn one time, they fit the foot ok but the shoe is quite stiff and hopefully will break in as i wear them. the stiff part of the shoe is the sole. i have tender feet and i a bit of prayer will help.

Doesn't live up to the Frye quality. The sole has zero grip. It's like walking on a slip-n-slide. I wore these one time at a conference, literally once. They're snug in the back, like walking on a plank of wood, and lose form after one wearing. If they didn't look so haggard, I would send them back.
