Can you provide documentation to back up that these are fda approved? you provide this claim in your technical specs.

Hello, Yes of course. In fact all sunglasses imported into the USA are FDA Class 1 Medical Devices and have spectral transmittance documentation on file. This is because of UV protection: Lens should have a UVB (280 to 315 nm) transmittance of no more than one per cent and a UVA (315 to 380 nm) transmittance of no more than 0.3 times the visual light transmittance.  Also there is a lens shatter test (ball drop test) that is performed on a certain percentage of every shipment that enters the USA. Every pair of legally imported sunglasses in the USA conforms to these standards. We had to mention the FDA thing on the product listing because so many people were asking about it for some reason. By the way, the FDA has no definition or guidelines for blue blocking glasses. For people looking for specific spectral transmittance properties (like anyone looking for sleep glasses), it's buyer beware! Please ask sellers to provide spectral transmittance test reports for the glasses that they sell.

Are the earpieces soft? They look uncomfortable to sleep in.

They're not soft at all but not uncomfortable. Like sunglass frames they're hard plastic.  I don't suggest sleeping in them.  Why not wear a sleep eye mask?

Are these glasses recommended for use as sunglasses. if not, why not? i understand that they block uv just like good sunglasses.

Why isn't this made goggle style to block out the light from above and on the sides? or do they make it?

Hello, no we do not make goggles. Depending on the shape of the face, these do a great job of keeping light out from above. They do sit fairly close to the face. Direct light and peripheral light from above is the most problematic.

We recommend goggle style with foam inserts and red lenses to people that work night shift and wear blue blockers in the daytime. Because sunlight is WAY more intense than screens and LED lighting, we recommend blocking all peripheral light. For those of us just using them 1 - 2 hours before bed at nighttime, these work very well.
