USB Microphone

I had been using the not-impressive headset mic that came with my Dragon Naturally Speaking for a few years now. When I looked for a new headset, I came across this instead and thought it was worth a try. I've been using it for several weeks and really like it. It's so nice not being tethered to the computer. I find that it's a bit too sensitive if I have it too close - it imagines words when I haven't said anything. But all I have to do is push it back a bit and then it's fine. I have mine sitting on top of a soup can to get it to the right height (should probably find a better solution at some point). I also like that it has an on/off switch on the base, since Dragon sometimes didn't catch my "go to sleep" command. This makes turning it off to answer the phone or whatever much more convenient.

Noise and echo reduction is good.I don't know much about Dynex brand equipment, as I usually shop other known brands.I must say I am impressed and satisfied with this device.I have a small Logitech USB stereo speaker device that works great with my notebook.This Dynex microphone also works fine.Both were plug and play. It is amazing how these USB devices work right out of the box.

Cheap and often looked down on; Dynex is usually the bottom tier when it comes to PC accessories. But this Dynex Mic has done very well, it is very good at picking up speech with no distortions and records very well. You can be across the room and it will pick you up, but if you are close to it, it filters out background noise some so it will only pick you up. I used it with Dragon Naturally speaking and Rosetta Stone to a superior effect.

I bought this because I wanted something to use with Skype several times a week. The mic sounds normal and picks up good enough for the people on the other end to hear me when I am sitting in a normal position at my desk.The product was cheap and XcessBuy shipped quickly. Setup took 30 seconds since all I had to do was plug in and use. I have Windows XP SP3 so YMMV when it comes to plug and play.

Update: I used a different computer (laptop) and got better results.. not as tinny and surprisingly clear. Increased rating from 3star to 4stars.I needed a cheap mic for recording a speech. I got this used for $6. The quality of the design is fair.. sturdy and the flexible portion feels strong.The quality of the mic is not as good as I hoped, though. Although it sounds relatively clear -- it has a tinny quality. Does not pick up the lower portions of my voice well. I imagine this is better for female speakers. It also is very quiet if you aren't close enough to the mic. I found the sound quality was best when I'm only a couple inches away from the tip.For the price I paid, though, it is not a bad mic. I'm sure it's great for phone conversations or speech recognition.

moral of the story: don't buy a microphone if you will soon be upgrading to a new laptop with a built in microphone. also, might as well go the extra mile and get a wireless headset. but if you prefer a mic with wire and a stand, it does work great. my friends were amazed when i called them using this mic and google voice. sounds clear as can be.

I payed less than Two bucks for this (before shipping) and am very pleased with the quality. We use it to Skype and with our Google phone and have been happy with the performance.My wife can be on the couch across the room and people can still hear her fine. They say the sound quality is good.I did have to go into the settings in Skype when I originally plugged it in to configure it, but once I did it worked fine. It was not hard but it did have to be done before it would work properly.

For the price, this mic is well crafted, and the sound quality is excellent. I use it on my PC for Skype and it's perfect. I read the bad reviews about "recording" quality. These aren't made for that purpose. Highly recommended for any voice application.
