First off, the results, as pictured, look really good for polished stone tile. I should note that I've been a professional traditional media artist for 20+ years, so working with stone patching color mixing and faux texturing wasn't too hard. If you read the a accompaying instructions you should be good. With that said, some notes; the black is super black, dilute it with water and use sparingly!! As well as most other colors. If you are a novice you should study basic color mixing first, particularly RGB method. The kit comes with many common stone colors if you dont feel like mixing the basics BUT if you want an exact match you will be doing a lot of trial an error and you will have to use the included red, green, and blues. The patching base compound in the tube is kinda minimal, only enough for about a square inch. As the instructions say, patch dark, then let dry, then texture with a lighter mix using a frialed cotton swab. You will need more cotton swabs than the kit has!! The compound looks lighter when wet but dries darker!! Do go light on the first pass The final lacquer coat leaves much to be desired. It comes with no polishing tools and if you have a perfectly flat stone floor tile to patch them you need to sand it afterwards. Overall it's a good kit but I think it needs more patching compound.

So I had a fairly deep gash in my slate floors and I decided to try this CalFlor stuff because of its low cost. I watched some videos online and I carefully packed the gash with putty. Waited for it to dry (I have radiant heated floors so it dry fairly quick). Next, I carefully followed the instructions...made a light mixture of gray which I topped with tan. I couldnt still see the gash, so I was quite satisfied. I had some residue around the gash so I decided to wipe it off with a wet towel. DO NOT DO THIS! It only wiped off all my paint and I had to start again. My guess is that I need to put the lacquer layer on it for it to set... Anyhow, I had to start from square one...so good to note, if you mess up you can start over. So I started over and loved the results. I then put a thin layer of lacquer on top (a thick layer will cause the colors to run) and it is currently drying. I plan on putting a couple more layers on top to ensure that when I mop, I don't need to do any touch ups. It is also fair to note, I have trained in painting (ie portraits etc) so I do know how to paint. I don't think you need painting knowledge but you do need to take your time and go from light to dark.

Overpriced, difficult to mix colors, complicated instructions. Otherwise, it lasts 2-3 years.

I've actually purchased this product twice to make tile repairs. The color mixing instructions are easy and accurate. In my experience this product works better on larger cracks or holes and not as well on hairline cracks. It saved my tile in my living room after I dropped a heavy table and took a thumb-sized chunk out of it. I was able to patch the hole and it's still holding after a year. Very happy! You can see the repair in the closer photo but it's harder to see from a distance. You'd really have to look to notice it as you are walking through the room

Instructions were very simple. This product is easy to use and virtually makes damage to tile disappear. I used it on a few Satillo tiles which had been scratched. The tile guys said only option was to replace the tiles but it might not match well. I used this to vary the colors to match the tiles and voila.. scratches are almost invisible. I recommend testing for color match first and use a blow dryer to make sure it’s completely dry before you compare. The clear varnish will lighten the color slightly so test that as well.

Package has confusing / conflicting directions on how to blend the colors. But it's impossible to do that by eye because it darkens when drying. So the process involves mixing the paste with the color drops, then applying and using a hair dryer to dry it. Then when you realize it's the wrong color, you then have to go back and add drops to the remaining putty. Each cycle of this takes 15 minutes. Then, even when you find an acceptable color, there's no way to repeat it because the drops were added in a progressively smaller batch of putty. Next, there's no way to apply this to many small chips. It goes on like spackle with a wide plastic card. Good for a big chip or crack, but not pinhead size chips. Lastly, I really thought this was an epoxy type of product where it would harden rock solid. It's just a soft putty and then they want you to paint it with a lacquer at the end. Well, that won't hold up to floor traffic and mopping.

I had some cracks in my travertine floor that I wanted repaired. I had someone come out to give me an estimate (outrageously expensive) and he told me exactly how he was going to repair the tiles. So, I did a bit of online research and came up with this product. It was easy to use and comes with everything you'll need. It filled the cracks well and it dried very fast (I'm not sure that's a good thing because it really cuts down on the "oops time"). I had to do some clean-up with a razor blade but everything came out OK. My only problem, well two problems actually, with this product were: 1. trying to do the color match was a real hit or miss proposition. It's not as obvious as they make it out. Fortunately for me I was repairing travertine tile that has a lot of color variation and vining so close was good enough. Trying to match a solid color tile would be an effort. The second problem is trying to match the sheen of the surrounding tile. They included a small container that might do that but, in my case, didn't. I'd also be concerned that their solution would wear away over time. If the light hits my repairs you can see where the cracks were. But, the contractor I got an estimate from said his repair would have the same problem. If you look down on the crack you can't see it.
