Learning Without Limits

This is a very interesting book that identifies 9 teachers from different settings on their journey to educate without limits. If you are a believer of growth mindset then this is definitely worth reading. If you are not a believer in no limit education you should also read this and change your mindset! At times I found the book a little slow to read as it does become slightly monotonous however overall It links practice with theory and makes a number of valid important points about education.

I wasn't too keen on the intro to this book, and found it to be rather "waffley" and wordy, and taking far to long to make a point or say what they were trying to say! It actually became quite tedious to be honest!BUT... stick with it, because the middle section with the case studies are a great resource, with some interesting approaches to mixed ability and inclusive teaching. I would have liked to have seen some more science based teachers giving their input, as many seemed to be English teachers.

I bought this as part of my PGDE (Primary) and subsequent probationary year. Although it was conveyed to be a very insightful and reflective piece of educational research, I found that it used a book amount of pages to describe what it could have described in a journal, which would have been considerably less reading.

This is a magnificent book, based on a very thought-provoking piece of research carried out by University of Cambridge. In summary, the findings showed that working with young people in ability groups is NOT the answer to either meeting their needs or driving up attainment.The role and disposition of the teacher is shown to be highly significant, and there are many practical pearls of wisdom to be gleaned from the text.It's worthwhile noting that one of the previous colleagues of the late and much-missed Donald McIntyre, Martyn Rouse, has developed a course based on this book which runs at University of Aberdeen.A wonderful read which is worth every penny.

I found this book both practical and theoretical and incredibly inspiring. It uses specific examples of from teachers to describe some really powerful ways of increasing motivation, building self-esteem and encouraging inclusion in the class room.
