GET THE YPS-7250-USB cord!
This is a great starter HAM radio or general use communication HAM radio for the amateur radio operators. The only recommendation is to get the communication cable as the one provided is not intended to connect computers to the radio. CHIRP currently has issues communicating with this radio so do not expect to have any luck using that software to program channels into the radio. The RT systems software works for this radio and as such, is recommended. You can manually program channels with this radio as well. I personally recommend individuals do this for a few repeaters in their area to get an understanding of how to operate the radio more fluently. However, programming over 20 channels like this will be time consuming.

Super Value!
I have the FT-7900 in my truck and the FTM-7250 as a base radio. I had the FT-7900 for a base, but moved it to the truck and was going to buy another one for the base. It was mentioned on GigaParts and Ham Radio Outlet that the FTM-7250 is the replacement for the FT-7900. Each radio offers features the other does not have. The FTM 7250D has C4FM digital (Yaesu's System Fusion II), besides FM. However, it does not offer and packet data transmission. The FT-7900 offers 1200 baud and 9600 baud data packet rates, but does not offer C4FM.I have the FTM 7250 as a base station radio.Without any programming software, this radio was very, cery easy to program. I programmed 21 channels, menu selections and even created a spreadsheet of my settings, all in one evening. More YSF (Yaesu System Fusion) repeaterss, some with WIRES-X (Wide-Coverage Internet Repeater Enhancement System - digital (X) ) capability are being established in my area, a feature that I really wanted. To me, C4FM sounds less "robottty" than D-Star. In fact, the FTM-7259 ssounds excellent with the C4FM.I also have the Yaesu FT-70D Handheld Transceiver. Much of the programming and operation are near identical with the FTM-7250.As you can see by the picture, the radio is very, very small. In fact, many of the radio's controls are on the mic.The one thing you have to be concientious about is the operating temperature. At 5 watt output, the display on low, there is no problem. However, raising the power output level and prolonged transmissions can considerably raise the operating temperature. Menu Selection 46, shows you the operating temperature of the final transistor and heatsink. I installed a cooling fan for base operation for the very hot summer days. The FTM-7250D does not have data packet, APRS, GPS, cross band ability, which I don't need, nor want for my base. It DOES have a very attractive price that reflects that. And with a 3 year factory warranty, what's there not to like?

Exceptional radio
I'm using it as a base with a power supply. It receives wonderfully, sounds really nice (with plenty of volume) and I'm getting good reports with it.The digital works well too, and is a lot of fun to tinker with.

Nice Radio
It performs exactly as expected. Nice little radio. It lacks some of the Fusion features such as file upload/download, messaging, etc. But I don't care about that anyway. Audio sounds very good. Easy to program. I'll be using it mobile. I will probably get another one for base.

Fantastic radio
Use it for 2 meter and 70 cm FM Nets. I am still learning the "Fusion" system part of the radio. Great radio for the price.
