Bones Beans - Baskin Robbins of espresso beans
I was super surprised with these beans from Bones Coffee. I had them on a coffee wish list when I upgraded from a K-Cup system to a Breville Espresso maker at Christmas time. These were gifted to me and they were my favorite beans for espresso. I have since tried about a half dozen different Bones bean flavors, but the Highland Grog is still my personal fave. I find that they compare positively to other beans I have tried which include: local brewer espresso beans, Lavazza Super Crema, and from Costo - Manatee Gourmet Caribbean Delight. If I were to rank them: 1a: Local Espresso brewer 1b: Bones Coffee Highland Grog 2: Lavazza Super Crema 4: Manatee Carib Delight 5: Lavazza Crema Aroma I skipped 3 to point out there is a difference in perceived level between my upper tier and mid tier beans. I haven't had what I would consider bad beans, but there is definitely a difference. I would always buy Lavazza Super Crema over their Crema Aroma option. Carib Delight is fine, but I think Bones is better. I have to grind Carib Delight at a 5 to dial in, whereas most of my other beans are dialed in between a Breville grind setting of 10-14 (note I adjusted my burrs upon initial setup to enable finer grinding so my settings may differ from yours). I converted to a single dose system and I really appreciate the flavor variety that Bones provides. I got some more Bones flavors for Father's Day so I'm loaded up on Bones flavors. I rotate between 4 different beans and my current bean selection includes: - Bones Highland Grog - Bones Dark Side - Bones Great White - Manatee Carib Delight (It's a big bag of beans, good value but takes a while to work through it) I would recommend trying Bones beans; I think you may be pleasantly surprised like I was (Oh and their bag naming / artwork is awesome!!)

So Delicious!
Highland Grog is smooth, flavorful, and is my favorite Bones Coffee Co. coffee! If you’re used to a heavily roasted (burnt) coffee bean flavor, I doubt you will appreciate the smoothness of this medium roast. However, for those of you who don’t have to have your coffee with a “bite”, but love a truly good coffee, you should give this one a try. If you’re looking for the benefits of a premium bean that hasn’t had the healthy polyphenols burned out of it, this is your brand! They do have “dark roast” flavors, but you don’t want to go hotter than a medium roast if you want the health benefits. Anyway, this Highland Grog is a treat, anytime!!!

Highland Grog Whole Bean Coffee!!!
This is the second flavor coffee of Bones that I've tried and I really love it. I'm not a coffee drinker by habit. I started drinking a cup every morning about 4 months ago to try to offset drowsiness from my medications that I have to take that leave me dragging. To keep my interest I usually grind my own so it's as fresh as possible then freeze it in mason jars. I also combine it with stronger basic non-flavored brands (also whole bean ground then frozen) so I can change it up a bit. *I get bored easily when it comes to coffee*. The Highland Grog is a perfect accompaniment in my opinion, to the strong basics like Hills Brothers, or San Francisco Bay French Roast. I mix roughly 45% of the Bones HG with 55% of one or the other and a dash of salt to smooth it out (My dad the chef's method) and splash of homemade vanilla extract. It tastes so good to me better than the Sinn-a-bon which was good but not as good to me as the HG Grog. If you're looking for a caramel butterscotch flavored coffee then you'll want to give this a try!

Great medium roast at a good price! We love Bones Coffee!
TLDR: Low acid, and great flavor, decent price I have tried a handful of the flavor offerings from Bones and I have not been disappointed. Our favorite one is this Highland Grog and we have bought both regular and decaf a number of times. Some things that come to mind why we love it: -The grounds are perfect for use in our Nespresso using a reusable pod. -I also grind beans for pour overs and it always turns out the way I want it to- good flavor and not watered down -The flavor of medium roast to me offers the best flavor, I used to only love dark, and I was shown the light. -The lower acidity of these coffee helps us not to worry too much about drinking too much coffee as it won't upset our stomachs. Price is pretty competitive with other brands sold here and IMHO I think every brand is selling coffee probably a few dollars too much. That said, Bones provides a great product for the price, and it is our go-to brand for our coffee needs :)
