Works great
The lights change color indicating charging status of the batteries, The charger is a small no nonsense unit that keeps it simple and just does its job. The batteries all charged well and function better than alkaline batteries in my flashlights, giving a far brighter output .

So Energy. Very Power. Such Renewable. Wow.
These are wonderful. I've only been using them to charge the AAA batteries that came with them. I don't really have enough devices that require AA for me to try out those yet. I imagine I've saved over $100 in batteries this year. I've had the 8 AAA batteries and the charger for 10 months now, used them a ton, and at this point if they died on me I'd consider it money well spend. When/if they do die I plan on buying more AAA batteries to replace my current ones.

Charger is neither ‘Rapid’ nor ‘Smart’ / Batteries are not Low-Self-Discharge type
This package ( EBL 808 Rapid 8 Bay Smart AA AAA Battery Charger with 8pcs 1100mAh Ni-MH AAA Rechargeable Batteries ) is very inexpensive and looks like a good value. However, there are several facts you need to know about both the charger and the batteries.[Charger]- The EBL 808 charges in pairs only. That means you're out of luck if you have appliances that require odd number of batteries.- Its charging current is too low (spec says 200mA, actual measured current even lower), which results in very long charge time. For example: to recharge a pair of 2300mAh AA batteries at 200mA would take 12 hours. So it really should be called an 'Overnight' charger instead.- It does not charge batteries to 100% full, since it terminates charging as soon as the combined voltage of 2 cells reached 2.8V. A real 'Smart' charger typically uses the "Negative Delta-Voltage" (-dV/dt) termination method for NiMH/NiCd cells.I tested this charger by recharging two eneloop AA low-self-discharge batteries. The LED indicator light changed from Green to Red when charging first started. After about 8-9 hours, the color turned Orange (both Red and Green LEDs are on internally). Finally after more than 10 hours, the light turned solid Green to signal that charging is 'Done'.I then measured the charge capacity of those eneloop cell, using the DISCHARGE function of my BT-C2000 Battery Charger Tester Analyzer . The average capacity reported was only 1525mAh. The same pair of batteries, when charged using BT-C2000 or any other Smart charger, showed an average of 1944mAh. That means the EBL charger only charged those eneloop cells to 78% capacity.[Batteries]My initial testing of those EBL AAA batteries, using the La Crosse BC1000 Battery Charger , looked very promising:- Right out of the box, the four AAA cells showed 485mAh average remaining capacity.- After one cycle, the average jumped to 1039mAh.- After another two more cycles, the average capacity stopped at 1043mAh, or 95% of the rated '1100mAh'. So far so good…Those EBL batteries all have ‘low self-discharge’ printed on them. I measured the remaining charge of four EBL AAA batteries after 100 days of storage. One cell was completely dead (0mAh). The other three range from 695 to 848mAh, or 63-77% of rated capacity. The EBL product page claims "Low self-discharge batteries will remain 85% juice when you leaving it for no use 1 year", similar to that of Sanyo eneloop Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries . This claim proves to be completely bogus in just 3 months. The self-discharge rates of those EBL batteries are close to that of ordinary NiMH batteries (or even worse as one AAA cell was completely dead). They should never be advertised as 'Pre-Charged' or 'Low-Self-Discharge'.[Bottom Line]The EBL 808 is neither 'Rapid' nor 'Smart' as advertised. The EBL AAA batteries have capacity close to rated, but they are NOT low-self-discharge type. If you are looking for an inexpensive charger that takes overnight to recharge your batteries to 80% full, then this package is still worth considering due to its low price. Otherwise, get yourself a package with reliable charger and batteries, such as the Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA instead.

... replaced my previous charger with this and am very pleased. Charging indications are easy to discern
I replaced my previous charger with this and am very pleased. Charging indications are easy to discern, the charger holds batteries sturdily in place (a previous one I had strangely would pop the batteries out at the slightest touch), and the charger fits easily in my luggage. I carry it on the road for work and it doesn't take up too much room. I actually keep it in the box it came in. Very pleased with my purchase
