Hofner Icon Series Beatle Bass Sunburst

I've played another bass for years, and I own and play several guitars, but this bass is by far the most fun to play of any instrument I've ever played. It looks cool, of course, but it plays amazing! I can play it for hours without wanting to stop. Truly an awesome bass! Highly recommended for any playing level.

Loved this bass!! Soo beautiful when I took it out of the box and saw it glistening in the sunlight. So glad I bought it. It's a REAL Beatle bass, not a no name copy.

Like others who have reviewed this Honfer bass, I too am a big Beatle / McCartney fan. And as a bass player, I have alway wanted to put my hands on a Hofner. I own three other bass guitars, Fender Jazz and Precision basses as well as a Music Man Sterling bass. All great guitars. I was initially hestistant to buy this bass because I figured that with such a low price coupled with it being made in China, it may not have been comparable to the guitars I already have. Nothing could be further from the truth! Tried one out at the GC and loved it. They however would not meet Amazon's price (their bad!)In any case, I bought this bass and it is a dream to play. The neck is so much thinner than each of my other basses and the action on it was set just right. With it being a short scale bass, it is much quicker to run up and down the neck.The only problem I had at first is this bass it very low ended (boomy). I play thru an Ampeg amp and it was just a matter of tweeking the settings a bit but once you find that setting, SWEET!As far as comment about feeling "cheap",this bass has a great look to it. I found no cosmetic imperfections. The sunburst finish on this thing is glossy and great to look at. For you "slap" and "poppers", take your Fender or MM with you for that (only draw back for me - but not a deal breaker!). Oh one last thing, I was not expecting a hardshell case with this deal... for $318 (no tax and free shipping), it is truly a great buy!

The Ignition/Icon B-Basses aren't hands-down terrible by any means, but when compared to the visually similar Hofner 500/1 (which retails for 5 times the price, to be fair) – well, i'd save up and get the 500/1-- all i can say is I own both, as well as Fenders, Epiphones, Rickenbackers, Gretsch and Hagstrom – and the inexpensive Hofner is probably the runt of the litter and more expensive 500/1 is my favorite of them all. 500/1 Records beautifully, wonderful on stage, a LOT more output to my Ashdown rig. The Ignition /icon basses lack output and richness and need about an extra 20% or so from your amp than most other basses do.

What's not to love?!!! It's a Hofner!! The coloring is superb, & the sound is Fab!

I had been looking for a bass guitar for some time. And being a long time Beatles fan I thought it would be fun to get a reproduction of Paul McCartney's bass when he was with the Beatles - before Wings. The price is really low so I wasn't expecting too much when it showed up. But I was surprised at how well it did play. There is a bit of buzz to some of the strings but with an adjustment of the metal bars with a rubber mallet it now plays well. This bass is so light and neck is so narrow, it is a dream to play. This bass was made in china. I am very happy with it. If uncomfortable adjusting the metal bars yourself, you can take it in to a shop.

Great sound. Excellent action
