yes, you can do it. Please remember that the Uke and the cuatro are built differently, therefore there are some limitations.

27" scale length Actual length more to allow for bridge or tail connection and to reach tuning pegs.

Q: Do these work well with DAA tuning?

Yes work well for me . I make dulcimer occasionally that what tune them daa

Q: The 10th string, the .24 B string tuned an octave higher keeps breaking after a few days. Have replaced just that string and it breaks again. Why?

Depends on witch end the breakages it could be at the Nott or at the bridge saddle, file the edges so that it's not Sharp
