Prestige eco-plastic 1.7 litre cordless electric jug kettle
Fast enough to boil. Pours evenly and cleanly without splashing. The switch lights up when switched on and remains lit until boiling. Noisy enough to be heard when working, and switches off with a loud and abrupt click to let you know when it's ready. Prompt to switch off when boiling so it doesn't waste power. It has no temperature settings other than boiling point. The press button that opens the lid works easily and securely. The calcium filter is simplicity itself to remove, clean and replace. I live in a very hard-water area, but the dire warnings about calcification in the instruction manual don't seem to be all that necessary. A very occasional boil-up with diluted lemon juice seems to be getting rid of the limescale deposited on the inside surface of the kettle after over 6 months' use. No sign of any leakage anywhere yet, the fault that seems eventually to afflict most electric kettles and led after five years' continual use, the need to replace its predecessor here, a Breville. It is the black version, and is easy to keep clean and smart-looking.

Clever kettle
I'm very pleased with this kettle. It boils so quickly that I barely have time to get the teabags out of the cupboard before the water is ready! It's easy to see how much water you've put in, and handy to be able to boil only as much as you need. Once the water is boiled, it switches off very quickly - no more steaming up the kitchen. The only feature I'm not delighted with is the lever that opens the lid - it's a bit fiddly and doesn't feel very strong, but I'm not really bothered about this as it's perfectly easy to fill the kettle through the spout. I like the looks of the kettle very much - it's got a sleek and minimal squared-off shape, with matt grey lid and handle, and commands quite a bit less counter space than my old kettle. I'd gotten pretty attached to my 14-year-old kettle - it was the first thing I bought when I moved to the UK - but I'm glad to have finally replaced it with this one.

Don't trust the reviews...lesson learned
Sorry but who has reviewed this......N Power? Purchased this with the anticipation that it would save on energy consumption, it doesn't. Furthermore the strange taste of the water produced really affects the tea, this maybe due to the new condition and time will tell. This was purchased to replace our old unit due to a problem with the switch. Just out of interest, and to prove to my partner that I've made a impressive choice, we tested the old unit and this model using a litre of water and a smart meter. Baring in mind that the old unit was lime scaled the results were far from satisfactory and both used exactly the same amount of energy. Really disappointing for the price paid and, to be honest, I should have gone for a Sainsbury standard much to the amusement of my wife.

Lightweight fast boiling kettle
Is this a record? I ordered this kettle at 9.43am on 21/1/2014 and it was delivered at 8.05am 22/1/2014!It was well-packed, as always with Amazon, however I was struck by how very light the kettle is, which isof course due to the cheap-feeling plastic construction.A major annoyance was the Eco label detailing the reasons why I had bought this particular kettle, so unnecessary, however the glue used to stick the label to the kettle was of the very sticky kind which prevented it from beingcleanly removed. This meant the label had to be picked off gradually in bits and pieces, leaving the glue behind. As the label was stuck on skew-whiff, there was no option to leave it on, and the glue required about 20 minutesto remove using 2 Isopropyl Alcohol swabs which fortunately did not damage the black plastic surface. The kettle performs well, quick to boil and the power cut-off on boiling is extremely rapid, so this really is aneconomic power-saving kettle. The blue internal light and on-off switch are a nice touch.A sister Prestige kettle (identical shape and specification) reviewed by Which? was going for £29.99 but the Amazonprice has shot up to £36.19, perhaps due to the excellent Which? review.

Very dissapointed but lesson learned.
I was really pleased with this kettle when it first arrived. Like others, I liked the look of it, because it was a bit different, and in use it was really quick to switch off (no overboil) and would boil the smallest amount ( a cup full not just a mug full). Happy, happy, happy for about two months. Then it stopped turning itself off and would boil for ever or until you manually flicked the switch yourself to stop it. This defeated everything about having an eco kettle. By this time I had got rid of the packaging so sending it back would have meant buying suitable packaging. It was easier to cut my loses and buy a different kettle locally, which I did, at Dunelm of all places! The lesson learned? Although I've shopped for all kinds of things on line( including a hairdryer), I will not purchase electric or mechaniacle things on line again. Books and things, ok, but returning items that develop faults after a few weeks is much easier if you can just jump in the car with it. Sorry Amazon but I will prob only buy things that don't have moving parts from now on.
