Kikkerland 3D Lenticular Bird Pokersize Deck 54pc Standard Index Waterproof Novelty Playing Cards

This deck is really special. The art is wonderful and the effect on each card makes it very very special.

The deck contains the standard 52 cards plus Joker in a basic thin cardboard box. The backs of the cards are all identical, so the deck is suitable for playing. The front displays dual images of Audibon birds via a classic lenticular pattern in plastic. The images are authentic and will excite bird lovers. But the plastic makes the cards too slippery for any kind of competitive play - it's more of a novelty item to fascinate kids and relatives with but I would not use it for bridge or poker or any kind of amateur gambling activity - cheap plasticized paper decks are much more suitable for that purpose. The plastic is also likely to increase wear and tear, so, to keep the cards in mint condition they are better suited for display than play. Of course, to make room for the bird images, the standard card images had been scrubbed, leaving only the corner markers. That makes glancing recognition much more difficult. But it is a high-quality novelty deck and an excellent gift.

These are NOT 3-Dimensional pictures. These are made with lenticular lenses, which are used in making 3D pictures, but that's not what they did in this case. True 3D lenticular images are created by overlaying two separate images, one for each eye, so that when viewed together they actually create a 3D effect where the picture has depth, and even seems to jump out at you. But, the two images have to be virtually the same, with a slightly different perspective. They use two very different images on each of these cards. On some of the cards, they're not even the same bird!Another cool effect that can be achieved with lenticular lenses is animation. Again, the two images have to be nearly identical, with just enough variation to create a sense of movement. They could have done this and made a bird appear to flap it's wings or peck at some food. But, they didn't do this either. These are just two very different pictures that do nothing special when you move the card except show you two different pictures.These cards would be okay except they're advertising them as 3D, and that's simply not true. I'm disappointed. I would not have bought them had I known.
