Sony DCR-SR68 80GB Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorder (Blue) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I was trying to decide between this and the ZI8 camcorders. The ZI8 was cheaper and HD but didn't offer as much. I was able to try out both of them at a local store and was very dissatisfied with the ZI8 so ended up getting this one. I couldn't be happier. The only thing this one doesn't offer is HD, which is a shame, but for the price it's a great little camcorder. It may be a little hard to use for guys with large hands but it's not that bad once you get used to it. Great quality, great zoom, built in light and zoom mic, multiple shooting modes. The software that came with it doesn't work, and from what I've read I'm not the only one that has had trouble with it. There are plenty of free programs online that do work however and do a much better job anyway so it's not a problem.The one thing that I was highly dissatisfied with was the way Amazon packaged it to send it to me. Horrible packaging job. All they did was put the small camcorder box into a box twice its size and shipped it out. No bubble wrap, no Styrofoam peanuts, no tissue paper, nothing. The camcorder box was left to bounce around and be jarred all the way here. I'm very surprised nothing inside had been broken by the time it got to me.

The camera takes ptures well, but the controls are very difficult to understand and even more difficult to use. All fuctions are conrtrolled on the screen and navigating is not intuitive. Compounding the problem, the screen controls are not always responsive particularly if one is perspiring and taking outdoor vids during a warm summer day.It was extremely difficult figureing out how to transfter the vids from the cam to my PC. At one point I was not even sure whether it was possible. The documentation was also not simple.No remote is included with the cam and no wireless remote works with the cam. A wired remote can be prurchsed from the Sony website but it costs an additional $50 plus tax plus shipping.

Have used this camera for a bit. Good value, easy to use. Still haven't figured out how to get video to computer, then to TiVo which I suspect can happen with some effort and hacks.Easy to start making movies

I bought this handycam on the recommendation of my brother-in-law. He is a professional camera man for tv shows and commercials so I trust his opinion on this one. It is self very easy to use and upload video to computer. Still pics are good quality and video/sound is amazing. I skimmed through the instructions then explained to my husband. Picture quality is excellent and clear. Battery life is perfect for our needs. I never had it run out in the middle of anything. We've had it for five years now. I like the blue color - true to as pictured and it matched my digital camera.

I bought this at a store, not Amazon. I read good reviews about earlier models, and was a bit hesitant to buy this camera because a few people said the video quality was bad. I took the risk, but they were right. The video (and digital picture) quality are unacceptable. Even in decent lighting, the pictures are very dark and grainy, as if they were taken by an old webcam. Even at high quality, there was no improvement. Also, the autofocus was very poor and did not adjust to fast-moving subjects. Don't be fooled if you try it in a store; the LCD screen has great resolution (better than an iPod) but when you see the video on a computer screen (even when not blown to full size) or on a projection screen, the video quality is so bad. It looks average on a traditional TV. And the zoom mic also does not capture sound effectively. I was going to use this for business videography, but it would have been embarrassing to use this camcorder. I suspect similar camcorders (i.e. 1/6 CCD) may have similar inferior quality. The size, zoom quality, and touch screen might be nice features, but my Canon A570 digital camera from four years ago took better video.

I wanted one camera to take both stills and video. The video is fine. The still shots are absolutely terrible. To take an indoor Christmas picture of my kids for our Christmas cards I had to set up desk lamps pointed at them to get enough light. And even then it was grainy. Disappointing because the camera size is nice, not big to lug around. The poor picture quality is not worth it.

this is a really good high quality camera that has a 60x zoom. and a really big hard disk of 80gb which stores a bunch of videos. and is really strong because i have dropped this a bunch of times and no damage to the lens or any of the interior parts. this is a little bit expensive but its worth it.
