Still Making Up My Mind
I have now washed these sheets twice, and although I'm not totally sold on them, I AM considering purchasing a second set. Here are some considerations:--- The "parchment" color leans toward mauve, rather than cream.--- The sheets get pretty wrinkled in the dryer. I don't worry about wrinkly sheets, but if you do, think twice.--- There is no pilling after two washes. Good thing, too; I hate pilling and will amend my review if it appears.--- You won't want to launder these sheets with anything that might lint; they collect it like crazy. And if you have pets (I have cats) you'll probably need to spend time picking off little balls of pet hair that magically appear. I do not allow my cats to sleep on the sheets, and I am fastidious about keeping my comforter and carpet free of pet hair, but these sheets seem to attract it from the ambiance.--- The fitted sheet is nice and snug on my deep mattress. While I don't mind wrinkled fabric, I don't like sleeping on lumps and folds; the fitted sheet in this set stays smooth between changings.--- The top sheet is a perfect width for comforters. I've had several sets that I had to tuck in on the sides to avoid visibility below my comforter. Not these.--- The tucks in the hems of the top sheet and pillow cases look classy, but the edges do have a tendency to roll. As much as I am adverse to ironing, I am tempted to haul out the board to address this issue. Also, because I am a side sleeper who tends to sleep on the edge of my pillow, if the pillow isn't snugly into the case, I awaken with marks on my cheek from the tucks.--- The sheets are substantial in weight without overdoing it. I have a set (different brand) of 440 thread count sheets that are so heavy as to be uncomfortable, but the Pinzon set feels much better. Still, if you like your top sheet to drape around your body, you probably won't care for these.

Egyptian Cotton Showdown: Pinzon Pleated Hem 400 vs. Pinzon Sateen 400 vs. Malouf 600
Internet research is at best ambiguous and inconsistent but I decided on Egyptian cotton. Also evidently "thread count" can be calculated in various ways and can be a limited if not useless criteria. All things considered I decided on Egyptian cotton ("EC"). It is puzzling how EC sheets with identical descriptions are available at Amazon and certain other merchants for a relatively low price while elsewhere they can be several hundred dollars more.My first order was(1) Pinzon Hemstitch 400-Thread-Count Egyptian Cotton Sateen King Sheet Set; and (2) Malouf Fine Linens 600 Thread Count Queen GENUINE EGYPTIAN COTTON Single Ply Pillowcase Set. Between these two get the Pinzon; irrespective of other criteria, the Pinzon is much more wrinkle resistant; any difference in other characteristics is subsumed by this single advantage. One month later my second order was (3) Pinzon Pleated Hem 400-Thread-Count Egyptian Cotton King Sheet Set. This difference between this and (1) Pinzon Hemstitch is (a) the hem and (b)it is not Sateen.I do not fully understand how sateen is different except it supposedly has a luster. There may also be some difference in the manufacturing process. Perhaps the difference is observable in high end sheets, but I cannot see much variation here. Get the Pleated Hem. This feature adds style and texture. Also I hate wrinkles which I find are more prevalent in the higher thread count models - like Malouf. As is stated elsewhere the sheets have some (not unpleasant) texture at first but after a few washings they are quite smooth. Scrupulous internet washing instructions- cold wash; low temp dry; then air dry to finish -have been observed.I am quite satisfied with both Pinzon sets. They are not particularly thick nor do they have the look and feel of luxury but they have more than satisfactory weight and substance. They seem strong and durable. There may be available bedding that is exquisitely sumptuous, smooth, silky, creamy, luxuriant, heavenly. At one time I would have insisted on nothing less but at what cost and how to be sure unless they can be examined after several wash cycles. To conclude, you will be quite satisfied even pleased particularly in view of seemingly good quality at reasonable if not low price

Started out scratchy, but in the end good product for the price.
This is my first set of 100% Egyptian Cotton sheets and I guess I didn't quite know what to expect. After researching my options (locally and online), I decided to purchase this product for the following 2 reasons:1. Sold directly from amazon so I knew I could trust that they would be 400 thread count. I had read numerous places that the count on sheets that were manufactured overseas (advertising 1200 thread count) were more like 250 by US standards, this is the trap I got caught on in my last purchase (off ebay).2. The price based on the thread count and 100% Egyptian CottonWhen I first put them on our bed my wife and I were both disappointed. They were extremely stiff and scratchy, even after the two wash cycles we went through before even using (after about 15 minutes of laying in them I kind of enjoyed that I could scratch my leg just by moving it). The next morning I did a little more reading and found that this very typical for the material and thread count here. The next night both my wife and I agreed they had gotten noticeably softer just in one nights use.On the third day, I followed some advice I had found and laundered each piece individually and on the rinse cycle added 1 cup of white vinegar (DO NOT use fabric softener, this will damage the sheets - just google it). I also let them air dry in direct sun light, and did one more wash. This made an amazing difference, supposedly this process removed chemicals and coating required in the manufacturing phase. After all is said and done I feel like I have a set of awesome sheets to slip in to at night. The are very nicely stitched and feel extremely durable and don't overhead us at night either (we are in Phoenix). I know I couldn't have found better for the price, and likely much more locally.Only reason I subtracted a star was the initial experience we had before things 'softened' up.
