I'm using this to paint a standard size metal garage door which I stripped down to bare metal. Applied this paint straight onto the metal as recommended but soon became aware that one coat would not be enough. The paint is actually a joy to use and no runs appeared although I was using a smallish brush - dries quickly but leaves you just enough time to work it - I did apply in direct sunlight in about 20 degrees which may have been a little too warm. Had to order another 750ml to do the 2nd coat so total cost for just one garage door is around £56. For water based paint this is far too expensive and I can't help thinking that you're paying for the name. Have no idea yet as to it's durability - so fingers crossed.

I’m very disappointed with this paint. Despite following proper surface preparation and cleaning the metal thoroughly, rust started to reappear after just 3 months. This is far from what I would expect from a product marketed as “advanced protection” and “direct to rust.” The application itself was also frustrating. The paint does not cover well, tends to smear during application, and requires multiple coats to achieve even a basic finish. Even then, the result is inconsistent and not particularly durable. Overall, the performance does not match the claims on the packaging. I would not recommend this product if you are looking for a long-lasting and reliable metal protection solution.

This product is not as good as the original Hammerite anti-rust paint they used to produce. Likely due to the modern trend for paint manufacturers to use water based products. Thus preparation of the item to be painted is the key along with using a suitable derust agent prior to painting. The end product gives a reasonable thick coating, but I found a few pin holes had formed in my project and had to give a second coat. Time will tell if the product is any good for preventing rust returning. One coat of the original was all you needed!!
