Love This Cookbook!!
This is hands down the BEST cookbook ever. Not the first I’ve gotten from America’s Test Kitchen, and I have never been disappointed. Every single recipe I’ve tried comes out perfect and delicious!!

good for the money and worth 5 stars
I'm giving this 5 stars because the recipes are extremely thorough. When the mailman brought this, I reach for it with one hand and it just about broke my arm. It is very heavy. I have not tried any recipes because it reads more like a textbook instead of recipes. I plan on reading this when I have a long period of quiet time to myself and I can read it like a novel. Very detailed. I watch the program weekly and from just glancing through the book it looks as though everything they say on the program is put in the book also. The recipes look involved than what I'm used to but we will see, I may just try to get energetic enough to make some recipes. In fact I may learn a thing or two. Very nice book for the money, lots of recipes, and again very very heavy. Also it has good quality paper and you can actually read the print.

My All-Time Favorite Cookbook
The New Family Cookbook is easily my favorite cookbook ever and I've never been motivated to write a cookbook review. What I like best is that every recipe works and I that gives me the confidence to try things I normally wouldn't such as cakes. In the past my scratch cakes were not very good but following the yellow cake recipe I achieved cake nirvana. All I had to do was follow the directions.Another thing that I like are the explanations for using certain techniques and ingredients. I like to know how things work. Some of my favorite recipes are:Black Bean SoupColorado Green ChiliBraised Boneless Short RibsSimple Cheese LasagnaApplesauce Snack CakeChocolate Chip Snack CakeSpicy Stir-Fried Sesame Chicken with Green Beans and ShitakesChicken BLT SaladUnstuffed Chicken Cordon BleuHearty Tuscan Bean StewSimple food with easily found ingredients that I and my family like to eat. This is the best cookbook yet from America's Test Kitchen.

Kitchen Bible
I've had this in the looseleaf version for about 20 years and go back to it over and over again. I just bought it in digital version so I always have it when I am not home. I recommend receipes from this book to friends and co-workers all the time, we also vacation in rented places with kitchens and I used to actually take my cookbook with me because I enjoy cooking when I'm on vacation (I know sounds weird right?) I'm happy now I'll always have it on my phone. Great for new cooks because everything is explained so well.

Very good cookbook of American standards for the family - Easy to make and quick to prepare - Well written and illustrated
This is an good basic cookbook taht really focuses on presenting good, detailed instructions on making a wide variety of foods (appetizers through a mix of desserts) that a family would like. The basic format of the book is to present recipes (usually with some variations) that start with a short explanation of "why this recipe works." The explanaiton ususally explains why authors have chose certain ingredients such as no-boil noodles, or receommend certain prepartion technciques (hand stirring rather using a food processor) to make the dish as consistent and appealing as possible. Instructions are VERY clear and there are instructions that show some of the stages preparation throught the book.It is called a family cookbook, and covers basic foods most families would like and that can be prepared quickly with easily available ingredients. The book is in this respect limited in that it is pretty basic in types of foods it offers - these are mostly "American" standards (including a good mac and cheese) that many us grew up with. The book provides good instruction for beginning cooks (e.g., how to hold a cutting knife) and is a good source of recipes for families.I think it is a very good cookbook for what it is, a collection of recipes that a family would very likely enjoy that don't take ages to prepare.

Great book
I love watching America's Test Kitchen show and decided to buy this book based on the positive reviews (thank you!). I have other cookbooks that I have purchased over the years on my quest to become a better cook (none are from this show). I usually give up after trying a few recipes from other cookbooks because either they were too complicated (processes and ingredients) or just didn't taste good. As the result, I prefer finding free recipes online instead of spending money on books that just sitting on the book shelf. This cookbook is the first one that I have cook multiple recipes from and like them all. The recipes are simple and the format is very similar to the show. My husband even like this book and have use it multiple times for smoking or bbq meats. I am so glad that we purchased this book and looking forward to using for many years.

best cookbook I have ever had
best cook book ever. I used to be a lousy cook, but since following instructions from this book, I feel like I can cook anything and it turns out great. The chocolate chip cookies turned out the best I have ever made. the meatballs and marinara recipe is one of my biweekly must cooks from now on. You will love this book as much as I do, I am sure.

Awesome value for the money
Awesome value for the money. I take away one star, because the binding is already cracking :((( and I've only had the book for a few weeks. The recipes are great and easy to follow. I've never made such a good roast as when I followed the recipe in here. Some of the best things to me are the tips throughout the book as to why certain ingredients are necessary and why they need to be stored a certain way and... well, just a whole bunch of stuff I'm finding very helpful. I'm not an experienced cook, but I can certainly follow a recipe and this book is just what this guy needed. Hats off to America's Test Kitchen!
