Gone In 60 Seconds - Director's Cut [DVD]

A fun, feel-good movie...
I kept catching this film on UK Television in recent years and had forgotten how much fun it is. This is the sort of role that Nicholas Cage knows how to do like the back of his hand and it shows. The rest of the cast do a stellar job too, particularly Vinnie Jones as a 'Mute'! Pre ' Fast and Furious', this isn't balls to the wall action all the way through, but when the action comes, it comes thick and fast (literally). 'Gone In 60 Seconds' is one of those films where the in-between the action scenes aren't boring and well worth watching. This is an early release for Blu Ray, but as with other Disney releases, the picture and sound are great and definitely a step-up from the DVD. I'm only using my LG TV speakers at present and the final car chase really pounded through them, not to mention the fantastic soundtrack. Through a decent surround sound system, I should imagine this particular release would sound pretty awesome. I watched this via the Uncompressed Audio Setting, as opposed to the Dolby (if that helps). Obviously, this is a 21-year-old movie so the picture won't look as sharp as more recent releases but it has a very natural look it, one where the actors don't look like they were just sent from 'Madame Tussuads'! As with the 'Con Air' Blu Ray release, there is the absence of the film's additional extended cut, although Simon West has stated he prefers the theatrical release anyway. Maybe Dominic Sena feels the same!

For the Blu Ray not just copied from the DVD reviews
Firstly I will start by saying this review does relate to the Blu Ray not the DVD as I've noticed seems to be the case with many if not all Blu Rays on Amazon. No need to review the film as you can find that from plenty of other reviews but this is a favourite of mine! Picture is 16:9 widescreen (black bars) but I'm so used to them on most films I'm past caring they are even there. Sound is a marked improvement over the DVD, although I would assume Blu Ray systems should enhance the sound somewhat anyway but there is a definite difference between the two, feels more punchy on Blu Ray. The picture is also much improved, still a little grainy in places but in my opinion you wouldn't notice unless you were actually sitting looking for every little detail I just happened to make a comparison to my DVD copy at the time which, by the way now looks pathetic in comparison to the quality of the Blu Ray. Definitely worth buying as the difference in quality is much better.

Mindless fun
Nic Cage during his non-crazy-speaking -in-monotone-I'm-just-a-good-guy-trying-to-get-by phase. No one is particularly good in this film, they're all type cast and everything is by the numbers. All the men are tough guys trying to put up a front despite their pain and all the women are half dressed, sexy as hell and basically just background dressing. Angelina Jolie's Sway does have at least some kind of development but then she's superhero girlfriend mode.Despite all that this film is nothing but great laughs and extremely memorable. Highly recommended addition to a lads night and definitely one of the stronger Jerry Bruckheimer productions. Then there's the cars...

gone in 60 seconds review
i chose to buy this dvd because it is one of my favourite films but i have never owned it myself. bought the item from the seller simply because the sellers id was high up on the list with a low price. it took a couple of days for the item to be shipped so that was the only negative thing about this transaction but since it arrived very quickly anyway it did not matter. i am used to ordering things from china so receiving my orders within a week is just lovely. the dvd was in good condition, as good as a used dvd could be and i am very satisfied.

good old fashioned formulaic entertainment
What's not to love about this one? brilliant cast..... brilliant cars....Brilliant stunts and CGI....brilliant plot (albeit the usual, tough times calls for the reforming of an old crew of buddies to fight the latest ecil etc etc) I enjoyed every minute of this movie, which is why I bought the DVD of course! Nicholas Cage rarely buggers up when he's in this kind of role and with the support cast he has in this movie, He'd have to be shot if the film was a failure really. Vinnie Jones really cracks me up at the end of the movie after being "silent bob" throughout...... Blimmin' good bit of fun :)

great film.
After working in cinemas for over 10yrs i have started collecting memorable films from the 90's through to 2007, their was some great film out in that short period and seeing as modern films are just about special effects and no story line, i decide to set up my own collection of the films that brought people out in there droves to see these films, one of which was Gone In 60 Seconds. A very good driving film with lots of high end cars being stolen for a local gangster to ship out to foreign buyer, with the cops as usual on his back 24/7.

Enjoyathon
Great cars, a great final chase scene and a bit of nice humour. The right film for some down time. The added scenes helped.
