Is it 2 stars or 5? i just cant decide...
Such an incredible and beautiful, utter disappointment and let down! The detail was immpeccable, the acting was fabulous.....but the ending was terrible! it was patchy and unresolved in such a dreadful manner. This was SUCH a wasted opportunity of a movie and I say that affectionately with respect for all who made it. A simple solution would have been to accept that this needed to be a 3 hour epic.... what happened? lack of budget? If the intent was to induce some difficult emotions in the audience then it succeeded but at the all important end - for all the wrong reasons. I really felt I was watching something very special here and it was unresolved in such an unfinished manner. Where was the truly smart, difficult and poignant conversation with the judge and her husband?! A hand hold! not for this movie! Thats like ramming a choco-flake into a 4 star souffle.....and then only serving the flake! SUCH a shame. PLEASE remake this movie with the same actors and put everything that is so dearly missing INTO it. Its not clever, its just a bloody waste. (he says mirroring her line - no no ...... as i said not clever, just a waste). There were life changing gems of depth and complexity as one reviewer put it (kindly) "left on the cutting room floor". This should have been a tour de force (which in so many ways it was!), stunning performances and story, butchered by editing and absence of material! why?! How can one film be SO good and yet so utterly terrible! lol This is a very special story and movie please remake it properly, I would LOVE to see it. 4 stars because I cannot give it 5, because it should be a 2 and thats not right either! agh! infuriating! This story, this movie and its actors deserved better.

if you're a Red................
If you're a Red then you HAVE to buy this. It's part of your history, your Footballing heritage.Doesn't matter if you were too young or not born in '92 - if you support Manchester United then you have to know about it's history to understand it's present.Really the "Class Of '92" had just 3 fantastic players in it. Butt & the Neville's were journeymen really. They worked hard, all loved United, but were unbelievably lucky to find themselves in a few exceptional Teams under one of the greatest Managers of all time. It's Scholes Giggs & Beckham that are the real talents in this sextuplet.Scholes - for me - is the greatest Central Midfielder of my generation. Truly gifted. He looked like something out of the 1930's, wasn't in the slightest bit interested in fame or motivated by money (he NEVER had a Business Manager and would sit down with Sir Alex in his office and simply agree what he was to be paid, and leave). He loved to go home after a game and be with his Family. A genuine old school Professional Footballer. And a sublime Talent that was loved right across Europe. He's Xavi's favourite player of all time for example. Zidane adored him.Giggsy & Beckham we know more about of course - Beckham way too much frankly - but the story of how these young boys bonded and how they worked their way into the first team is fascinating and you can genuinely see that this bonding when they were such young lads - no matter the ensuing fame & money - is still in evidence now and no doubt always will be.They grew up together, won much more than they lost together, and are ALL Manchester United players to the root of their souls.A fantastic Film-Documentary for anyone, but especially my fellow Reds.

My Review.
Emma Thompson must be one of my favourite actresses, and here she's on top form as a veteran judge who ends up getting stalked by the grateful Jehovah's witness teen whose life she saves by endorsing a blood transfusion. This of course is against the religious beliefs of the group, which leads to much drama in court involving the parents... and this takes up the majority of the first half. The second is just the now eighteen year old chap relentlessly pursuing her... for what exactly? Romance? Stability? A search for a purpose? Who knows, but such hopeless aspirations got only lead to one thing. Just a reminder: make sure you have hankies at the ready.Every performance is great, particularly Thompson as the stoic judge with a hidden heart of gold, Stanley Tucci as her unfaithful husband and talented newcomer Fionn Whitehead playing the tragically misguided boy. When you're so absorbed in what's going on that when the movie ends suddenly it's like a jolt back to reality, you know you've seen something a bit special. Definitely recommend. 7/10

I've seen the film twice
Great performance from Emma Thompson as an officious judge who has become disconnected from her feelings she can't separate who she is from her role as a judge so she meddles where it wasn't necessary as the film explains she didn't need to visit him in the hospital. I loved this film. I understand why Ian MeEwan had the boy have a crush on Emma T's character as without it they'd be no link between them and its this link that separates their roles in life. She is her role as a judge whereas the boy's whole life was as a Jehovah's Witness, and his parents lives, its his link to them and without it who is he? She knows who she is and overstepped her boundary as a judge which confused the boy beautifullly played by Fion Whitehead. Thoughtful film.
