Install was difficult, but very rewarding.
I upgraded from two alpine spr-60 coaxials. Two things I noticed right away:Midbass is Excellent. Vocals really stand out.Tweeters are now right in front of my face. This makes it feel like im standing in the front row of a concert.Sounds significantly better than the coaxials because of the above two and in clarity.Issues I encountered:Wiring the tweeter and crossover added a lot of extra work.Finding a good location for the tweeter and the crossover was also difficult.Had to fade to the right about three because the left tweeter was too harsh even though I modified the crossovers as illustrated in the manual. It was definitely worth the upgrade, It's hard to justify paying $300 for them. After all, they are just speakers. They sound great though and it's the best thing alpine offers.

Too Expensive for what you get
If you are considering this set please keep in mind that you will need amp power like around 150 watts RMS. Also these speakers can not handle much bass and the crossover bulb will light up like a christmas tree if you dont cross them over correctly. Quality feels normal and the midbass is the strong point of this set. I have already smoked one of the tweeters because of volume and it wasnt even that high, also Consider having them professionally installed and buy through an authorized dealer.

Great Speakers with the right installation
I don't really write reviews for products but I had to seeing that this product got only two stars for it's only review, I had to jump in and give you an audiophile's perspective on these speakers. I've been into car audio for many years, then got out of car audio since moving over to high-end home systems. For years after, I got by with "premium systems" in the high priced cars I've owned over the years, but after having lost the taste for luxury cars, I moved back into my commuter car and decided I'd get myself a really nice high-end "like" car audio system (because you can't compare a truly high-end home audio system to a car's audio system) to get me by until I return back home to my home system. After a few weeks of research and listening to the best of the best in car audio today, I decided on this system for the price. Sure there are a couple of other sets I heard that were better like Hertz or the Audisson AV K6 (very impressive), but you'll be paying for it. This speaker system under review really is a great set for what it is and for the price. Although, you will need a very good subwoofer in a sealed enclosure to make up for the lack of lower mid-bass. If you are going for ported and loud SPL's, go ahead and buy whatever else you like or everyone else is putting in their cars these day. But if you want something that sounds smooth and liquid in the lower mid-range on up, this is your ticket. It must be installed by a person who knows what they are doing and when you do know what you are doing, you'll more than likely buy these for a custom installation and not just to slap them into the stock factory locations. That's true of any of the higher end component speaker systems. I have had these in my car in a custom install (I don't trust many "installers" out there so I do for myself) in the doors and on a custom 1" MDF based baffle with the door insulated & "matted" for over 2 years and they sound great. I will say they are lacking in the lower mid-bass (read below 60HZ) but what they do above is really great. They are very fast and respond quickly and are very smooth throughout their audible range.I don't know what the other reviewer was doing with his set, but after breaking in the speakers for a number of hours, the tweeters are the smoothest sounding I've heard in car audio, period. These drivers compare very well to the Audison but don't give you the mid-bass that I was impressed by in the Audison. But in terms of mid-range on up, they go toe to toe. I will suggest you use the best speaker cable you can get with these or any other highest set. I run mine on an old school PPI Competition amp I had from years ago. It's a very clean 50W A/B Amp with good dampening factor of >200 to them and they get plenty lound for anyone in the car and outside as well. When I first saw these speakers, I immediately noticed the designs were Vifa / Scan Speak, but manufactured in China to keep the costs low. I must say, very impressive Alpine for doing so for a true high end product. Vifa / ScanSpeak have been making very high-end speakers for many years and what they have helped Alpine do here is very impressive.I've brought my humble car to a few high-end custom audio shops around LA, CA looking for a high end head unit to replace my old but "can't be beat for playing CD's" Sony CDX-X90 Mobile ES and have WOW'ed everyone at the shops. When they've approached my car, they see a modest car but after speaking to them on my very specific needs, they ask what I'm running in the car now and once they are in, they can't believe how well tuned the sound and imaging the sound is. Let's just say that I end up auditioning the system for most of the staffers and the installers with my set-up. That alone should say something for these speakers. Oh, and by the way, I'm only running these speakers with a single 12" Type-X subwoofer powered by a Mono Digital Amp in a sealed enclosure. No need for rear fill or any type of center channel. If you are looking at components in this price range, this should be on your short list. It's a shame you won't find these to audition unless you know someone who has them installed. I hope this review will help someone looking for a good pair of separates.I almost forgot, these sound best at normal to moderate listening levels. Since I run mine full range (I'd recommend a very good adjustable crossover so that at very high volumes you don't over drive the woofer), the system still sounds awesome. Even at high sound levels up to the woofer distrotion level they sound fantastic. This is where a rightly set-up electronic parametric crossover would be prefect. (When I'm at that level of sound, you can hear it loud and clear several cars away!)Buy these and enjoy. And FYI, I'm not n employee of Alpine or a fan of any of Alpine's other products other than their very highend speakers and Amps. I still haven't found a solution to my head unit, but I'm still hopeful.

Not Worth The Money
The reviews I read about this speaker had me believing I would be transported to a sonic utopia, where I sit on a velvet listening chair and have beer served to me from a diamond encrusted, platinum tray. The booze is served by a bikini clad Katy Perry, sporting open-toe stiletto heels. Needless to say, this is not what happened. You will read such great reviews about this set everywhere you look. (I am at a loss for all of these great reviews. Employees of alpine are probably authors of many of these. Either that, or we are looking at an epidemic of deaf drivers incapable of picking out a good sounding pair of speakers.)I have tried every conceivable way to get these speakers to sound great ( you know, the way $500 speakers SHOULD sound) and never succeeded. I had them mounted on axis/off axis, I fed them 100 to 300 real RMS watts per channel (NOT peak). I used ever possible combination of the ridiculous modules this set comes with, and they dont make a real difference. Its all marketing. The tweeters sound decent, they are however moderately harsh and cannot be mounted near ear level (no matter how many combinations I tried on the "tuneable" crossover)In addition, they are HUGE and a real pain to mount. I butchered my A pillars trying to fit these in. ( I needed to buy new A pillars after I got rid of this set.Be SURE to make a few measurements before dropping the big bucks on this overrated set.)Also HUGE is the crossover.Despite all those pretty parts and gadgets inside of it,its completely useless. The woofer sounds good, and is hands down, the best thing about the set. Its detailed, it has good bass and it plays loudly without distorting, (too bad its paired with the other junk Alpine passes off as reference speakers)PROS: Really neat looking crossovers that look like small amplifiers. There is enough metal and capacitors in them to give an electronics nerd multiple orgasms. Unfortunately, these crossovers are all for show, they are crossed over far too low and the tweeters sound shrill as a result. I have had better results using a MUCH cheaper crossover.CONS: Very pricey, not nearly worth the asking price. Look elsewhere if you have this much money burning a whole in your pocket.P.S : Please read the replies to my review. They are from random customers. Apparently, I am not the only one who doesnt like this set.
