Q: what's the smallest guard included in this set?

According to the picture, the smallest would be the 1/16". It's the greenish one in the picture. 1/8" would be the next smallest.

Q: how do you think these clippers with the taper will work on ethenic hair ect.?

They are not that good! I trim my son hair with them. They will do if you are looking for something affordable but if you want a nice clean line up then you probably want to buy some better trimmers. My son hair is very coarse, 4C type of hair and the clippers work fine but the trimmers are just okay.
