Well Priced Easy to Setup NAS for SOHO
The Asustor software package really makes it easy for a novice like me to setup a storage solution. I installed 4x2TB Iron Wolf HDDs, plugged the NAS into the Xfinity router, turned it on and was able to immediately see the NAS on the Network. I found it easier to setup the NAS in a RAID 5 configuration via the web interface rather than through the phone interface (both work fine, just my preference to go through a browser rather than an Android app). The Asustor AS4004T is quiet (no fan noise and minimal HDD noise) and so far has been working just fine with zero issues. I currently have MAC, Android phones, Linux PCs (Ubuntu 18.04) and Win 10 PCs all reading/writing files just fine over WiFi.Blocking regional IPs from logging on via FTP etc. is incredibly straightforward to setup. Time Machine was trivial to setup and works fantastic. Just very easy to use with a lot of features that are clearly defined and easy to set up.The 2GB memory and ARM CPU really limit this particular model to just handling data I/O, but at this price point and with 10Gbe capability, it's a nice, somewhat future-proof data storage solution.

Nice nas for the price.
Nice unit, holds 4 hard drives, has 10gb data connection and 2 1gb connections you can use to double up if you network doesnt support 10gb.Pretty quiet how ever the front cover does move around and will rattle from time to time (its on magnets). Also, and this is my fault for not researching better, does not have a plex application available for it at this time.

Works like a charm
I purchased this to be a backup for my home computers and servers. It works great with some 6TB hard drives I purchased and gives me plenty of room for expansion - which is why I purchased this. I have an 8 disk Synology and a larger QNAP and this one is pretty solid in comparison for the price. I would recommend this without reservation and will purchase another one as my storage needs grow.

Fast, Silent, Easy to manage
Upgraded from a nearly 10 year old LG NAS appliance. This ASUS NAS appliance is fast, responsive, easy to manage right out of the box. With multiple LAN ports, 2 x 1Gb/s, 1 x 10Gb/s, there's enough bandwidth to support a small office or a media hungry family. The configuration can be kept simple with easy to use SMB shares, or go crazy using NFS, SMB, iSCSI and more.Storage configurations from JBOD to more advanced RAID configurations, like RAID 10 make data safety and redundancy easy. Ability to plug in external USB drives to take backups as needed, ability to backup to multiple cloud services can ease your worries about disasters like fires, tornadoes and losing all of your digital history, pictures, home movies, accounting and tax records. All in all, I am very pleased with this unit.

Great little NAS
This NAS is a small awesome little machine. I have used the very user friendly OS that is has for file management and drive management. The APPS that ASUSTOR provides gives the NAS a lot more capability than most small NAS within the same price range. The only CON is I have been trying to use it as a stand alone PLEX server but because the PLEX application is not supported it is kind of hard.Overall a great NAS especially for the price.

ASUSTOR Support Is Non-Existant
I purchased the ASUSTOR NAS for the sole purpose of using it as a Dropbox device, since it has a dropbox app. Initially it worked fine, but after an ADM update it stopped working properly. I contacted Asustor support two weeks ago today. They have not resolved the problem. Last time they contacted me was one week ago.If you buy an Asustor product, pray you do not need any technical support

The NAS I was looking for!
I needed to move my 12TB drives out of my computer for various issues. My requirement was simple yet reliable NAS with a 10gbe Link. I put 4 Seagate 12 TB Drives in this NAS. Then configured it for Raid 10 and it took 48 hours to build and another 24 hours to sync. Once that was done I was able to access the array quickly via IP Address and configure shares. I setup a couple encrypted shares, and a regular unencrypted share for files where security isn't a problem but would prefer speed, such as DVR files. If you are not as tech savy, you can use the software that it comes with (Asustor Control Center) to quickly scan and configure your NAS. It's pretty simple that anyone can do it. I have had this for a few weeks now, and have had zero issues. I actually moved it off of my desk and moved it into the server rack so it would have backup power and experience less vibration from my desk.I highly recommend a UPS when using this NAS, or ANY NAS for that matter. You don't want a power loss to cause your raid to have to resync or worse yet experience data loss. When it is syncing it is much slower, but still usable. Also you can attach a USB Drive to the back to backup the NAS which I also recommend. The NAS itself can run software and backup to several different solutions. It has an external power supply which is important to me since its easier to replace it fails. Some NAS units have the power supply built in and I feel all that does is complicate the unit and create heat that could effect the drives.Overall I recommend this easy to use NAS that just works. Just keep it clean and on a UPS.

Quiet, Fast, Tiny little NAS
Very impressed with this affordable 10GbE NAS. It is much quieter than the Drobo I had previously and even my old Thecus NAS that I use for media storage. It supports using iSCSI LUNs on your local machine so the NAS can appear as a local drive to Windows.I can't quite max out the 10GbE connection with fast conventional hard drives (spinning rust), but 800MB/s on sequential reads is close to 7-8 times faster than standard gigabit so I'm happy enough with that. RAID5 Write speeds are limited by the ARM CPU on the NAS.[update]I replaced one of the HGST 6TB NAS drives in the array because the AS4004T reported some bad S.M.A.R.T. data on it and unusually high temperatures compared to the other drives (something that the old Drobo they were in completely missed), and rebuilding the 16.3TB volume took a just under 12hrs. That CPU on the NAS was up in the 90% utilization range the whole time, but that's still the fastest I've ever seen a large capacity RAID rebuild.

Need a Fileserver with10 Gbit LAN connection? This one is it.
If you're looking for a data dump, an archive device, image server or even PLEX server, this one is certainly a candidate.Mine houses 4x 8TB WD reds. Building a raid5 partition took 30 hours. Filling the NAS to 75% took about as much time. The raid5 works well, reads and writes as expected, very unlike the garbage windows storage pools I had set up on a PC before this.My experiences with it are limited to using it as SMB and PLEX server, but for those tasks it does exceptionally well, as long as you don't need transcoding, which it can NOT do AT ALL. This is fine if your client infrastructure consists of PCs, laptops and Nvidia Shields, but as soon as you have a weaker TV or client device, that can get iffy.-This is not the reason for just 4 stars though. My biggest bugbear is the fan control. You have low, mid, high, and automatic. Automatic basically goes to mid. There is one degree Celsius difference between cranking it to high or having it on mid. Low however, lets the drives go up to 58°C on prolonged writes, like when you fill it with your movie collection, which is is a temp I don't really like my drives to reach.Auto seems to have 60°C as target, which is a bit too much.On idle and mid, the drives are at 37 to 39°C, on idle and low they're at 48°C.If the system would let me set auto with a target temperature, or a temperature curve, that would be nice.-The other, smaller issue is the noise it makes. The drivebays are plastic, and while the screw-less mounting mechanism basically pins the drives in with rubbery bits, there is still a lot of vibration going through the whole device, so much that I put a 1 pound weight on top of it, like I had to do for the longest time with a cheap Sony BluRay Player which would outright start to buzz from the spinning of the disk while playing a movie. This keeps the vibrations from buzzing.I don't quite know what Asustor could have done to prevent this, other than making the device out of sturdier material, but it is undeniably noisier than I expected. As it is now, it has its spot in the vestibule, and certainly not in the movie or bed room.-The last issue is software related. Even with no clients running that could keep the SMB or PLEX servers up, the device keeps the drives - which are set to idle after 30 minutes - spinning for hours doing... something. There are no processes not idle that would stick out, and I yet have to find any option that I might have left on anywhere that would keep the drives busy. PLEX has everything archive related switched off.Maybe I'll find the reason for that sometime. As of now, the box isn't as "set and forget" as I wanted it to be.-All in all though, for a 350 € purchase, this cute and fashionable box gives little to regret, and it does its job very well. It will likely still be replaced by a device that can transcode, but that has less to do with it and more to do with the internet situation of a certain remote client being too flaky to get a proper 8mbit stream in any reliable fashion.

What a disappointment...
Ordered this base on the review and the 10Gbe Ethernet...and it also looks good and sounds good on paper too. However, it is a huge disappointment. As a long time user of QNAP, I compare this to the TS-431P but the performance is about the same though the TS-431P only has 1GB of RAM and is also over $110 cheaper! Apps wise, ASUSTOR has less than QNAP and ease of use is also not as user friendly. Everything is bury deep, so you really have to dig iinside to set things up. Cosmetically, it is nicer looking than the TS-431P but other than that, I think it is inferior from Mobile Apps (AIMaster, AIFoto etc..) to configuration. I was hoping it is better than QNAP especially with the 10GBe etc.. but in the end, what a disappointment!

Nice and compact NAS.
Great little NAS recommended by a friend who purchased it. Took a few attempts to connect it to my IMac but it works great!
