SET Enterprises SET - The Family Card Game of Visual Perception - Race to Find The Matches, For Ages 8+,81 Cards, Rules included

This card game has been a family and friends favorite for years. I have ordered several decks over the years to give away as gifts, and as prizes in school. My career was as a college math professor, and I used these to demonstrate math concepts in class and Math Club. I also used them to play a fun game with 5 year olds. Often the 5 year olds can beat the adults! It's a game with simple concepts of pattern recognition, understanding "like" and "different", and other traits like shape, number and color. I especially like that it is not necessary to stick around through a whole game to have fun - you can jump in on any round. This too is great for kids. I highly recommend for anyone.

Pros - Easy to learn and teach. The rules are actually in the back of the box already, it is that simple. - Fast to setup and play (less than 30 minutes). Actually there is no setup needed, just shuffle and show 12 cards, no need to deal any to the players. The gameplay doesn't have turns, it's just a racing game where whoever would be the 1st to find a set among the 12 cards would gain the point, so it's gonna be fast. - Small table space is enough to play. A table that can fit 12 cards is enough. Can definitely be played on an airplane table! - A bit addictive. You would always want try try it again after a game. - The game is replayable. You would always want to do better. When you weren't able to find a set, you are really focused to get the next one. If you found a set, it feels very satisfying. An endless cycle that doesn't feel samey at all and can definitely be played multiple times, you can even play it multiple times in a row without getting tired of it. - The game is not multiplayer solitaire. Both of you are racing to see a set! - Highly interactive and engaging. Perfect for groups! Cons - While the game is extremely simple, this is not a game you would want to play with your partner after a long day at work as the race creates tension and you need to have a clear and sharp mind, which might feel exhausting especially when you are already tired. Just play Tangram cooperatively. - The box is trash. The insert can't fit sleeved cards. The box is not the usual open-the-lid box but rather those like the cereal boxes, making it hard to get the cards inside.

Ready for a game that's both fast paced, and requires concentration and focus? Looking to pull your hair out while trying to find matches only to be ecstatic and over the moon when your persistence pays off? This is the game for you! And apparently me too, wow. I loved playing this game with my family! We have a six year old that we're trying to help concentrate, focus, and persevere more and this was just the game we needed. Finding the sets across all four domains (all different or the same shapes, all different or the same numbers, all different or the same patterns, all different or the same colors) seems confusing at first and it really makes you think. Instead of just finding matches, you're now looking for aspects of each card that are either all the same, or all different on each domain. For this reason, I recommend first playing it by yourself as an adult before trying to teach a kid how to play the game. I made the mistake of getting super excited and introducing it on our game night having never played it before and my six year old lost interest quickly because I couldn't even figure it out! We tabled the game for that night and I learned it on my own and brought it back out the next game night. This time I was able to teach her how to play and it was a blast and less confusing for both of us! Another cool thing about this game? You can play it by yourself! I work with kids and adults with various anxiety disorders and ADHD and this game is great for all of them! For anxiety, it can help take your mind off of the anxiety and put your focus to something in the "here and now", and for ADHD it helps develop focus, persistence, working memory and general executive functioning skills. This game is so affordable, I would argue that this needs to be in every classroom!

I played this with my kids, and what I loved about the game was that the kids would get better than the adults very quickly. So it was the first game I purchased to use with my math TEAM at school. Right now, I have bright kids grades K-5 playing SET together before school, while they wait for the rest of the TEAM to arrive. We play SET in a non-competitive way (because that is how I like to learn and teach). Their goal is to clear their deck with no time limit. I started by showing them a "how to play video "on youtube from the manufacture. Then we played the daily online game that is on the manufactures website. (Look up "daily setgame puzzle"). I purchased just a few decks at first, so they had to share the cards. Here is how we play cooperatively: I divide the SET deck in half and give half to each partner. They both deal out their 12 cards in front of them and start playing solitaire. If either get stuck, they can switch chairs with their partner and play their partner's deck. It really helps them to know that they are almost guaranteed to have a set in every deal, so it encourages them to stick with it and builds grit. When they first started, if they got stuck I would look at their 12 cards and show them one of the cards that is in a set, so they could find the other two. Sometimes I will say, "I'm having a hard time finding a SET, can someone come give us a clue?" They love knowing they can help. Some of my students are more linguistic than visual, so they watched me play a couple of rounds and I would say the strategy I was using out loud as I played. Just doing that for a couple of sets really helped those verbal thinkers get the hang of the game. The shapes are large and bright, so people with some vision impairment can play. SET is not complicated. You can learn how to play SET quickly. SET is fast to set up and put away. You can play SET solitaire, with a partner, or with group. It works on a restaurant table while you wait with your family for your food. For those who like highly completive games, then you can play by the rules that come with the deck. Everyone plays at once, so there is no waiting for your turn! I always recommend SET to parents as a gift they can get their child that will help with brain development. They are always grateful whey they've tried it. I'm here purchasing more decks for my classroom.

I love Set! It's been like 15 years since my first game and honestly, I don' think I'll ever get tired of this game. It is repetitive, but if you buy the game knowing the replay value, you'll find that is a pro, not a con. It's useful because the simple gameplay makes it an easy task for your hands to keep busy while allowing you to focus on the conversation if you're in a chatty mood, and to pretend to be thinking deeply if you have nothing to add to the current conversation. The best thing about Set to me is that it grows with you. Here's how Set has aged with me over the years: A teacher in elementary school had a copy that was a popular go-to game for many students. We were competitive so it helped us practice speed, coordination, and social skills. This game is small, slightly taller than a regular deck of cards so it generally fits in a purse/bookbag, making it great for middle and high school-ers with limited space/weight. Granted, I grew up during the days before most students had smart phones so things might be a bit different now... Anyway, I prefer Set to regular card games like BS, 13, ERS, and etc. because the rules do not vary based on who you are playing with aside from "is this round a let's-slam-our-hands-down-and-hand-on-bottom-wins kind of game or the polite I-called-Set-first kind of game?" because people either know how to play or don't. It's a great game to bond over, especially when everyone's brains are mush from homework and lessons. In college, I didn't have a copy, but I can tell you that simple and quick games like this are attractive to everyone in the room, even drunk people. You can even set up in public places like dorm lobbies to make new friends with similar interests when fellow students stop by to ask what you are playing - who knows, you might have a new study-buddy or future roommate! After college, it's been a great first game of the night for the the host(-ess) and early birds who are waiting on the rest of the attendees to arrive (-or finish grabbing/eating food) since people can jump in and out as they like. Also great as a drinking game! Very good way to chill out with friends who refuse to play epic/long/complicated games like Monopoly, Catan, Betrayal...etc. Nothing builds a bond quite like a competitive game of Set! Anyway, here are some other things worth considering: It's a decent budget gift. Group size is pretty much limited to the size of the table. Everyone must have a decent line of sight. I've played with like 12 people at once before. Color blind individuals may not enjoy this game unfortunately. My only other complaint is that my first purchased copy of Set came in the pictured box with a crumpled corner, like super fan-like crumples about 1 in x 1 in. I was amazed that the cards inside weren't ruined. Luckily I didn't have to ask for new copy because the cards were fine. Just be ready in case you buy it as a gift or like to have nice pristine game boxes that that can occur. None of my subsequent like 5 gift purchases came crumpled so it doesn't seem to happen often so may have been a 1 time thing.

This is a card game that requires more brain power than you'd think. It's a really fun game to play with 3 or 4 people. But as a middle ager, the teens really whipped me bad. Be prepared to lose if your brain is the oldest one at the game table.

I first bought these cards in 2008-2009 in America. My kids, my in-laws, my whole family loves it. Recently on a trek of 14 days I got all 12-14 people totally addicted to these cards. Once you start you cant put it down. You'll keep going back to them. Just t prove you too can make a set and fast. You'll get super competitive and practice on your own so in the group you too can look smart. Haha. Some get it easily and that's so irritating others take time to identify the set but this is the fun in the game. It's so simple to carry so simple to play but so much so many hours of mind boggling fun! I wish we had a Indian pricing. This was expensive as it came from abroad I think.
