Ascension: Connecting With the Immortal Masters and Beings of Light

Ascension Clarified
This book contains very important information about the imminent changes to the future of humanity that are already afoot and have been prophecied to peak around December 21, 2012. The author makes a brave and sincere attempt to demystify the ascension process by putting it in a credible historical perspective. To this end, she goes into the legends and myths surrounding well known religious figures, primarily from the Judeo-Christian, Indian and Chinese traditions, and interprets their experiences, gauged from the prevalent literature (Bible, Gita) via the ascension window. In addition, she takes up more contemporary real life examples of people who have achieved ascension in their present lifetime, and makes a clear case for showing that1)most of us are not so far removed from that physical state as we allow ourselves to believe,and2)we can indeed attain that numinous state of being if we practise a few well chosen meditation exercises. The author's understanding of the divinity behind the relgious symbols in the various traditions that she mentions appears sound and well balanced. However, considering the nature of the material, it is easy for her to underestimate the consummate strength of her own psycho-spiritual physique, so, for most of us, who lack that kind of rooting in higher levels of consciousness, this book could appear, a bit glib and the conclusions drawn about our preparedness, slightly overestimated. My personal impression is that the lines of delineation of the logic have been drawn out clearly, but there are too many i's that remain undotted and too many t's, that remain uncrossed (that is why I give it 4 stars). I also feel that this book has been written in a hurry, besides, the material is not totally self-contained, the author refers to her earlier books, a touch too often to fill in procedural gaps. They could have been incorporated in an Appendix to the chapter in question. So if you want a fast read perspective on some of the specifics of what to expect on the prophecies around the ascension process expected to ocuur in 2012, read this book. Otherwise, save your time and money.

Enjoyable, but missing something.
In this latest work, Dr. Shumsky provides us with a plentitude of information regarding ascension, ascended masters, visitations by ascended masters, various definitions of ascension and bodily incorruptibility and finally, in the second to last chapter we are given a meditation that is ostensibly designed to help us ascend right here, right now; as the book often attempts to inculcate to it's readers that it is in fact possible to do so. Although I have no argument with the authors premise in principle (i.e. that we can ascend any time we choose), I do contend that it is not as easy as she propounds. I have not ascended, in fact I've only taken the very beginning steps on my path. That said: I have read thousands and thousands of pages from spiritual works by masters that I trust implicitly; and one of the common themes promoted among those spiritually wise men and women is that it takes time, dedication and patience to unlearn what a lifetime (or maybe hundreds of lifetimes) have taught us - that there is a thing called separation, that our own ego and/or our body is "us", that God is not on our side, etc., etc. etc.Although I found this book energizing and enjoyable, it smacks of typical 21st century mentality, that is: instant fulfillment. I may be wrong, it certainly has happened countless times before (no seriously!) but I don't think ascension or enlightenment works quite that way. I'll go so far as to say that perhaps ascension does happen in the blink of an eye, but the process leading up to it, may take considerably longer, perhaps lifetimes! Thus, I give four stars for the efforts and rendering of the material, but only 1 star for the assertions (or at least the main assertion.) Three stars all the way `round.

What Did I Just Read
Thought it would be an interesting treatment on the topic of Ascension (as a matter of spiritual attainment) and how to draw closer to that ideal. Most of the book was actually dedicated to retelling legends and prattling on and on about somehow physically ascending into heaven and achieving physical immortality. The dubiousness of such a claim aside, the book contains very little advice on what one would do to supposedly ascend in any manner (or even try), overhyped to the point of absurdity, and lots of sales pitches for in-person seminars.Any advices offered in this book will likely leave you feeling exhausted at best. If you're looking for anything like what I was looking for, you're better off starting with a simple meditation regimen and finding your way from there.

Refreshing
Isn't it refreshing to have an author who writes about extreme longevity, healing, and immortality who actually looks good for her age? The author is sixty four years old and recent photos and interviews don't reveal her to look like a woman out of her thirties. I'm sure when Suzanne Sommers finds out about Susan Shumsky, she'll throw all of her vitamins away and start going to her seminars. This book is filled with innumerable accounts of extreme longevity, and ascension, many of which I had never heard of before, even after doing exhaustive research on the subject myself. I haven't taken the time to vet each and every one of them, but certain cases I did look into are compelling. There are some great meditations in here too which are aimed at kick starting your own ascension process. I tried one of them out, and lets just say I got someone's attention from "upstairs". I'll write a more detailed review as I continue to work with this system. I never take advice from someone who isn't getting the results I'm looking for. The bottom line is that the author is getting real results with her teachings, and she's worth your attention.

Susan Shumsky's book "Ascention", was an excellent book to read.I found it hard to put down at times. When one has Spiritual experiences themselves, they can relate to things Susan claims in this book. Anyone on a Spiritual quest needs to read this, as it can help in your journey.I will say this, reading this book has made me a fan of Shumsky, and I can't wait to read this author's other books!
