ALERT - Tinnitus Sufferers
I purchased these speakers with the hope that they'd be useful in sound-masking for my tinnitus condition. I can only relay my own personal experience. This is not to say that others' needs, and thus experiences, could be different.I found that 1). The speaker housings and the wires themselves are very intrusive. I could not get used to the feel of them through the sides and top of the pillow. 2). I had to try to keep my most-affected ear flat against the pillow, in order to hear the sound. This is nearly impossible, since I tend to turn in my sleep, as do most people. I also tried sleeping on my back with my head positioned between the two speakers, but again I experienced the same problem. 3). The sound is quite muffled, at least through my pillow, and the volume stays quite low. (I had it hooked-up to my iPod). Actually, in most tinnitus masking situations, this is not a problem, as the sound generally doesn't doesn't need to be overly loud in order to mask, nor do sounds need to be of superb audiophile quality. I'm mentioning the low volume and low-quality sound reproduction for those readers with normal hearing who might want to try these speakers for personal music or talk show/news listening; e.g. so as not to disturb a sleeping partner. It's possible that using a very thin pillow, along with an audio source with a more powerful output would solve that problem, but I doubt it, since the frequency reproduction itself is poor. So, based on the above experiences, I'm going to stick with my bedside fan for masking, and I may try a bedside sound/white noise generator. As anyone with severe tinnitus knows, it can be extremely disheartening, and very difficult to find solutions. One must often keep trying different approaches in order to find out what might work for them. I have been fortunate in finding tinnitus solutions for other areas in my life, so don't give up hope, and know that you're not alone.

No sound problem, solution for movement
I've had these speakers about 10 months, and although I don't use them every night, they are under my pillow almost every night anyway. I use them with an ipod, and even in my 40's with some normal hearing loss, I don't have any trouble with the volume being too quiet. In fact, I often have to turn the ipod down quite a bit so my spouse doesn't have to listen, too.The movement of the speakers was a bit pesky when I first got them, but then I hit upon the idea of sewing a sleeve for the speakers onto my protective pillowcase. It was an extremely simple fix of applying a 4"x20" sleeve onto the case, and it would be easy enough to do with fabric glue if you feel sewing challenged. My MIL and I both use these, and I'm back on this page because my teen son is looking for these to use at college.

Fragile
These are not worth the price in my opinion. If you buy them treat them gently. One of my speakers has quit working already. They slide around under pillow or pillow case. Also, it isn't quite loud enough at highest volume. I'm going back to my previous pillow speaker which worked great but has a felt lIke cover that picks up hair, lint, etc. I'm about to cover it with something - not sure what yet. I don't see anything else that will be better

Useful, good sound, but wires are loose after a year.
Have enjoyed these, my first set of pillow speakers. Bought these from Amazon Oct, 2010 (22 months). I rate these a 2-star due to the loose wires mentioned below.PROSSound is good.Volume is good.Long cord length.CONSLoose wires - after about a year, the speakers cutout about once a week. I have to jiggle the wires connnected to the speakers to get them working again. Wondering how much longer before they quit altogether.RECOMMENDATIONSI'll shop for another brand once these stop working, only because of the loose wires. I've seen some recent reviewers mentioning the same problem, so Sound Oasis should get the clue and change the design/material to fix the cutout problem.

Cheap and basic, they do the job.
Pros:+Spoken word and music is clearly audible under pillow+Competitive price+Simple, robust constructionCons:-Unusually long cabling can easily get tangled and be a nuisance-Comfort - speakers (very light and smooth) and cabling can slide around your pillow, poking into your face from time to time unless you secure them in place by some means-Low volume and poor range for music (don't expect much bass or oomph with these little units)For radio, white noise and spoken word, this is a good buy and will do the job just fine. Reproducing music with fidelity and comfort and style are not strong points, but not necessarily a deal breaker(particularly in relation to alternatives).

Useful little pillow speaker system
Another long time Radio Shack Pillow Speaker user, who has been looking for replacements. This is the pillow speaker system I use for travel. I wanted something sturdy enough to live in a suitcase and not get crushed. This makes them a little hard to sleep on, but sturdy was important. The lines get tugged when I put the system in the drawer each morning. But they don't get used more than 10 times a years. So I really can't tell you about long term constant use. But so far there has been no sign of the wires breaking. Which has been a problem with pillow speakers in the past.I wish the speakers had a volume control, but since my sound source is usually right near by, this isn't so much of a problem while traveling. And I am glad that these are stereo, which the Radio Shack speaker wasn't. It is useful when I end up using a stereo sound source, no more weird monaural. :)

It works!!
I had a PillowSonic Stereo Pillow Speaker that lasted about a year. It was OK but then it stopped working. This one worked better straight from the box. It was easier to position the 2 speakers under a pillow and they were louder and clearer than the PillowSonic Stereo Pillow Speaker .update 6/28/2010: The wire to the first speaker broke. Annoying. Lasted about 18 months.update: 1/1/2011. The wire broke again. Had to disasseble and solder. The wire breaks at the point that it enters the speaker. It should have been reinforced here. Aftger repair, I added electrical tape to the spot where the wire exits the speaker. I hope this helps.
