Review: Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita is one of those rare novels that challenges, disturbs, and fascinates all at once. The prose is dazzling—every sentence feels crafted with precision and musicality. Nabokov’s command of language transforms an uncomfortable subject into a haunting exploration of obsession, morality, and manipulation. That said, this is not an easy read. The story’s disturbing core makes it emotionally taxing, and readers should be prepared for intense discomfort. But beyond the shock lies a novel of stunning psychological depth and literary genius. Lolita is both a portrait of human darkness and a testament to the power of art to capture the complexity of the human mind.I’d recommend it to readers interested in classic literature, moral ambiguity, and linguistic artistry—but not to those seeking light entertainment. Review: the size is smaller than usual book size, the cover is sticky and poorly made. pages are too thin. simply, a bad quality. go buy from another brand if you can

Passt gut.

this book is really well written, its written in a lyrical, romanticised sort of way. it almost makes you feel for the protagonist who is a child groomer, which btw is disgusting and i hate. Anyway the actual book itself came in pristine condition and everything seems to be in tact so far :)

I guess we all have something in our minds when we hear 'Lolita', but so few people have read it. I have been surprised to see peoples reactions when i tell them what book i am reading. And they dont listen to the real story or actual themes raised, they just glaze over and continue believing what they always thought. Dont think that it is my storytelling abilities but we can never be sure. And none of my well-read or not so well-read friends have read it, some saw the movie 'a long time ago'. The first few chapters are difficult reading without anything morally wrong or illegal being described. You just have thoughts about how this isnt right somehow, should this be allowed? Should this be encouraged as a...classic, a book that you should read? But it slowly comes into being a story of a man and a young woman. There is a large age gap but she is definitely pubescent, not prepubescent. Not paedo's in this book contrary to popular belief. The most telling passage for me was Lolita playing tennis. Humbert is watching on, admiringly. He is describing his thoughts. It would be so easy to say he is simply perving over a young lady but it occurred to me that the personality, elegance and form of the player is why many people enjoy watching tennis. And the chance to watch, to stare, without shame. And sport generally. And why we all like looking at women so much, on the tennis court, in women's magazines, on the tv. Men AND Women. It was a genuine revelation. We are all in love with the beauty of women. And in the author's notes, the tennis scene was one of the key sections to write. The notes also reveal that he claimed he wrote it without considering the reaction, without trying to court controversy, or even to start discussion on the underlying political theme of a mature European screwing a young American or nature of human biology. As a translation from the Russian original, it is no Anna Karenina or Dr Zhivago, with 60 words when 5 would do. Whatever your opinion of that. Friends pointed out that my name may now be on some kind of list by simply buying this book online (their paranoia, not mine). I dont care, it was worth it to cut through the rumours and read such a thought provoking...classic.
